Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

Just another day at work for this old KABAR:cool:
The rattler is about 5ft long. I killed it with the rock too, not the truck

Ryan

Like the kabar is the secondary a pen blade?
Lots of guys use the skin to back traditional bows. I don't want anything to do with snakes or my bow looking like one.
Dave

Heck yea Mark, we eat it all the time! It's pretty good meat:) this one is actually on it's way to the freezer as we speak lol:cool:
Shoot, I'll send you more than one, I've got a bunch. I don't even know how many I kill a year:D

I am going to hold you to that promise buddy! :D

Traditional bows can look nice with snake skins, but like my knives I much prefer to see the natural materials. Not much better than a blackwood barlow in my pocket, stag fixed blade on the belt and an Osage bow in my hand.

Yes sir, the secondary is a pen blade. I think the knife is 3.75" long or just a touch over that. It's got great snap opening, but no closing snap unfortunately. No matter, it still works like a champ :D

Too Cool Ryan! Have you ever eaten rattlesnake meat? Send the body to Pete for cooking and send the rattle to me.....because I want one!:D

Mark, I'd be on that, make some fried rattlesnake tacos, soak in some buttermilk dredge it up in some seasoned cornmeal and flour with cumin, garlic, onion, smoked paprika, chili, cayenne and s&p, pan fry it, then serve it on a grilled flour tortilla, with fire roasted peppers &onions, fresh tomatoes and pickled jalapeños, and cilantro, now I'm hungry

Last nights

The prep

The process

The meal

Grilled tuna steaks, with a lemon basil roasted garlic vinaigrette with fire roasted peppers, onions, grilled corn and asparagus, Laguiole did all the prep and took care of the most important part consuming.

Opinel helped process some maple so I could smoke some country style ribs, prepped some homemade baked beans and my BBQ sauce, then consume

Aren't Rattlesnakes protected in any way? I realize they're potentially dangerous but I thought some reptiles were protected in the USA?

Here in many parts of Europe, snakes and other reptiles are endangered species and have protection.

My Opinel chopped up thyme, parsley, bacon, courgettes and mushrooms to go with gnocchi pasta. Sorry, no pic me and my guest devoured it too quickly, mmmh!

Thanks, Will

Great to see this thread alive and kicking again! :) Pete, there've been times over the past year, that I've worried you've been living on pop-tarts my friend, but I'm glad to see that I needn't have been concerned! ;) :D Great stuff everyone

Ha, no need to worry my friend, my poor girls have no idea what a pop-tart is, everything around here is homemade, trying to remember to take some pics now that all the snow is gone and life is flourishing all around again, hope you are doing well pal.

I'm sure they don't Pete - TBH I only know myself from watching Pulp Fiction! :D You are living the dream my friend, absolutely love your pics :) I'm good thanks

No, rattlesnakes are not protected down here. You try and kill everyone you see! Heck, there's rattle snake roundups where they're killed by the thousands and shipped off to tanneries and meat markets.
