DLT Bark River Magnacut Santoku

This whole thing isn't making sense still.

For the blade to patina like that, flitz might take off the patina but it's going to happen again. Flitz isn't going to remove bits of steel "embedded" (still don't think I believe that to this degree either) in the blade.

Either the wrong temper was used or the wrong steel was used.

Isn't this at least the second post like this regarding magnacut from bark river?.....and the response from DLT says this is a known thing with them. And there are credible reports of Bark River (intentionally??) mis-labeling steel. And this isn't a thing with magnacut from other makers? 🤔

I can see what answer the signs are pointing to.

I'd send them back the knife & the flitz, along with a note asking for a refund plus my return shipping. DLT is off my short list of vendors after reading this.

lol.... Again, and not being a SA here...Just send it back if it's ripping your life apart. BR will make it right. Yes, haters of BR, they will.
I sent back a Michigan Bowie that chipped badly when used at all and, by golly, they ground those chips right out of there for me! So I was returned a much smaller knife that will chip again when used.

Bark River really "took care of me", haha. How will they take care of the OP, do you think? He'll have to send it back for polish job every time he eats steak!

Sounds like a case for a quick XRF check. Anyone have a unit?

This reminds me of an old joke…

Two guys are walking in the woods, and they see a pile of dog poop right in the middle of the path.

One says "Hey, that looks like dog poop".

Then he bends over and touches it. He says "Feels like dog poop".

The other bends over and sniffs it. Says "Smells like dog poop".

Then he sticks his finger in it and tastes it. He says "Tastes like dog poop".

"Well, good thing we didn't step in it."

Just glancing at that knife, what would make anyone think there’s an upside to determining what it is? You can’t pick up a turd by the clean end.

I am kind of bummed. Purchased one for a new mega kitchen knife set I am putting together and have not used it yet. It was a lot to spend for a blade that will not look good and potentially not hold up. Live and learn.

Well, knowledge for one thing, instead of speculation. I like knowledge, it gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling. 😀 And a better case for the OP - send it to the state AG for further processing...

Oh, you sweetest of summer children, I envy your innocence beyond words. So precious.
In Kentucky we say "bless your heart" lol

I'm unsurprised at the knife rusting, this has happened more than a few times with brk. Who knows how many knives are actually in a different steel. The one way to make sure your knife is the steel it's labeled is to buy it from a reputable manufacturer, not bark river.

I have seen so many posts detailing issues with Bark River and it saddens me every time, being from Michigan and knowing "the famous knife company" from my state has such a reputation. I have watched many videos of Mike Stewart being an idiot and calling out users for actually using his knives that I can't believe people still buy from him at all. There was the "Cutting chopsticks is gross abuse" videos and many others over the years. I had hoped that there were lessons learned on both sides about them using different steel than what they claimed but clearly not. I feel badly for the OP because he just wanted to get the knife and steel he purchased and now he has to deal with DLT being a-holes as well as them blindly defending Bark River with stupid ideas as to why the knife is messed up.

Stewart has always had a terrible reputation. The only times he's been decent is when he's had to answer to someone above him like the owners of Marbles or the non-Stewart owners of Blackjack (Warner, Blue Ridge).

I’m curious to hear if you have a similar issue. The very first time I cut a steak with it there was visible patina.
