Dog Knives

I like how you think you have the right to enter a property and start stabbing peoples pets because they're protecting their home. That might get you shot even after you leave the property. If the owner isn't home and there is a dog running loose in the yard, call your super, leave a note to reschedule, that fence is there for a reason.Other then checking the meter, which should be outside of the fence there is no reason to enter a property without permission,if a cop can't do it without probable cause I'm sure you can't ether.

Im an Electrician in Oregon (Gen Sup), Washington and California. This may sound rude but you sound a little unexperienced. If you need to do that many non paying meter pulls you must be in a pretty run down district, im sorry to hear that.

Knife is a bad idea, your claw hammer is much better, only use the blunt end to stun the pups. Mace should be carried also. You should report this to your IBEW union, your employer is in violation of the safety agreement.

yikes. not to be all itg on you, but if you came on my property and confronted my dog with a knife, he would be the least of your worries. all for self defense and protection when on public property though...

Unfortunately nearly all laws treat pets, including dogs as property, so if you shoot someone that stabbed your dog, you will certainly see jail time, especially if the dog bit that person.

Maybe I am bit a naive on the subject but why would someone react badly and be a dick to a cable tech going into their backyard? Isn't that their job and isn't that what is needed to be done?

You would be shocked at how many people get a attitude when you ask to access their backyard. The tone usually changes when you tell them your calling the police or once they show up.

Yeah but surely they would understand that it is a mandatory thing, no?

This... 1.5 pounds of 17% OC... stuff they use in prison riots :)

Come onto my property unannounced and kill my dog?

C'est un bad idea, friendo.

Cops here in Fresno have killed a few dogs... ;)

Our meter reader has some kind of remote reading device. All he has to do is scan the meter from a distance. I live out in the country. Maybe a remote device wouldn't work in a populated area? I would think some kind of baton or mace would be the best. This way you don't have to be as close as you would with a knife or taser. One question. Doesn't the meter need to be read every month in order to determine the amount billed?

The OP should consider the amount of liability he would be taking by using a knife on someones dog on their private property. His pants would be sued off and his employer would deny any liability due to the fact that this is outside his training and company regulation/policy. Its a bad idea even if he doesn't get shot by a angry homeowner.

Perhaps something like a Koga SD/2 would be less violent? It's what I carry when walking my Mom's dog. I'd think even pepper spray or a stun gun is just begging to get sued (whether justified or not), let alone stabbing someone's dog outright. Picture someone finding their dog spasming on the ground or with burning orange goo all over their face. At least with a kubotan you're still in "I was just hitting it to get it off me" territory.

But to answer the question maybe a small CS Ti-Lite? Just pull it out of your pocket with the snag and it's open and ready to stab dogs. A Rajah seems, well... maybe if you want to decapitate it :/

I have one of those, it's pretty cool but it's useless unless you plan to crack someones skull with it.

This has been the most entertaining thread in blade-forums history.

If I had a job that forced me onto peoples property LEGALLY like utility companies and a dog attacked me I would kill the damn thing if I thought my life was in danger. Would be a last resort however.

If you shot the poor guy and killed him chances are your going to jail. If you don't then you will probably be killed by a surviving family member of the victim. Revenge is a dish best served cold and if the world is filled with bladeforum Rambo then your pretty well toast too.

After the dust clears, your going to have two families grow up without fathers. Is it worth is because you can't control your animal?

Agreed, all the shooting talk was getting a little out of hand.

"There are some crazy ass people out there."

And you're one of them. Seriously man, I'd rather have a stout stick than a knife any day. Ever hear of ASP batons? You need something with reach and preferably something that you aren't going to kill/maim the dog with. A good chemical spray and a collapsible baton is what you need, oh and a new line of work.

let me just put it this way. if a meter guy or power line guy went into my backyard without knocking, (who may have a right to do this, no argument there), and stabbed one of my dogs, there would be shots fired.

don't be an idiot, you could end up dead...
