Like this idea for a thread Charlie, enormous variation we've seen so far. These initial examples you show are really something, but my award goes to the Lloyd- he gets a lot of 'atmosphere' and personal styling cues into his knives.Bolsters can dress up, and strengthen a pocket knife!!! I've seen them drive a tack in some cases among other oddball uses!! But are they really necessary??
If the liners and handles are sturdy, the knife will stand up to reasonable chores, without loosening or wobbling the blades!!!
In many ways, bolsters are optional, but not needed!! Whey else would we have so many knives without them?? This thread is dedicated to the knives that don't have, and indeed don't need those shiny chunks of metal!!! Here are some examples!!View attachment 3193978View attachment 3193979
Please post your shadows, if you have them!!

Thank you, GJust an aside to this nice thread:
Will Power recently posted some admirable examples. He also started a similar thread about 10 years ago, if anyone wishes to see more of these "shadowy" knives:

J jackknife also started a thread like this even earlier:

(Both of these older threads probably have many missing photos because of Photoshop shenanigans.)
