Don't Regret the Snark

I missed this and need better clarification, does this go for all knives and knife makers that have their own subforum?
It doesn't need anymore clarification man, let it go. Don't post other manufacturers ad nauseum in the becker forum. It doesn't matter if it is Busse, Tops, Esee, any of them!

Manufacturers and makers are different. Makers that have a connection to beckers (Crimsonfalcon, TMHunt, Daizee, Terrio) are still going to be mentioned in here cause THEY ARE HERE. No one is trying to single you out, or piss you off or anything like that, don't take it as such, just let it frickin' die already. No sense trying to breathe life into a dead horse!

I'm in the middle of moving again. This crap is fun....... So far we've had no heat, no hot water and still no internets there. So this week I'm going to be moving all my tools and what knots there to get set back up. Then hopefully I won't have to deal with all this crap for a while. :)
Good lord you move a lot don't ya! Good luck with your move (again! :-P)

Well, I wonder who WW refferring to?
Todd, trust me, let it go. I know it isn't in your nature. It's ok, let it go it will be for the best. Hell I'll buy you a beer too next time I see you! As long as we don't have to see moose in a skirt, er... sorry... kilt, again.

I am guilty of posting pictures and talking about other knives in the snark thread (Helle, BHK, Moras). If we are not supposed too I am sorry.

With that said I like browsing this snark thread to see what others are interested in.

I don't mean to add fuel to the fire but I enjoy seeing what makes other people happy. Knives, guns, pets, kid stuff, various foods containing bacon,... whatever.

For what it's worth, certain makers are also Beckerheads as well.

I could be wrong but I think that plays a part, encouraging and supporting those within the community so-to-speak. Likewise with some of the sheath makers who are Beckerheads too.

It says post in the proper forum, so if there is a forum for the other knives they should be posted there as well correct?

It means use some common sense, take a hint from your fellow forumites, and please tone it down. No one's trying to ban chat about other brands, but the Busse chat seems to inflame more than other brands, and frankly worldwood, you bring it into this thread more than others.

I have no plan to ever post anything else about that company here what so ever now that i read that

Okay.

but if its just that one company and others are still fine to post their stuff here whenever they want despite having a sub forum for them, plain and simple thats just wrong on so many levels.

Look if you all want to parse hairs and start some sort of rule-bound system, I'll just lock down the Snark thread and let it fade into the archive. The thread was my baby to start (though Bladite and Derek snarkified it), and if it starts becoming work for the mods, I'd just as soon see it go.

It was the sheer volume of posting of a specific different maker, and the ensuing chains of threads, replys that got that button pushed. I think IF we see the same issues with any other makers it will be said about them as well.
I happen to know Guyon is a fan of the items in question, and just isnt a fan of the way those discussions kept going.

Bingo. Like I said... common sense.

Exactly, with emphasis on the "ad nauseum" part. This shouldn't even be a conversation. As long as there's some decorum in terms of extent regarding other brands, all is fine. If, on the other hand, you notice repeated push-back from peers and you feel the need to be shown exactly where the line is, then maybe it's best to simply refrain from posting about a particular brand.

I already said id forget it and follow the rules, the facts are the facts, and the leaders make the rules despite what i think and feel about them rules I said id follow them. it already looks like its going to get out of hand again for no apparent reason so lets just end it and get back to snarking. The problem wasnt that I posted that make of knife, both mods also like some of them knives as well, like stated the problem was the arguments because people had to moan and complain about seeing that knife, and then arguments would break out. I agree, i was also tired of the arguments. But i didnt start them, like a lot of you i only posted other knives i liked, then people would have something negative to say then id snap back and that would cause an argument.

But again, i said forget it, i said i was done talking about it, posting the pictures and would follow the rules, so lets be done with it and go back to snarking.....

Sorry guyon i was posting that before i read your post, im a slow typer, ill read what you wrote and edit out anything in my last reply thats needed

Edit, sorry i seen red didnt read the name at first, i edited it.

If you want me to edit anything else just let me know. Like said ill abide by the rules.

And maybe we can go back to snarking.

Just got a new folder case in the mail as well as a Condor pouch that'll hold an Altoids tin with room for a mylar blanket, prolly. I'll try to get some pics up later, but I'm pretty stoked right now. Here's the Condor stock photo:

I personally don't really mind one way or another what gets talked about in here. I just don't read the stuff I don't care about. A lot of the talk about other manufacturers just makes me like Beckers more. Great, hardworking knives, with a genuinely approachable, knowledgeable, and generous man behind them, and some of the best CS in the business. We could talk about pretty much any other company and have Beckers come off the better for it, in my opinion. I'm certainly guilty of talking about all kinds of things, mainly because I know y'all have mainly the same interests as me, and your input is always welcome and oft solicited.

There are certainly some makers/brands etc that tend to result in much vituperation. I think that's usually the issue. Not just the ad nauseum, but that those topics are so polarizing that what could have/should have been a friendly discussion turns into something requiring moderation, and that's fun for nobody. That being said, how's this for a Becker fieldtest: ride an inanimate pig, and then see which Beckers do the best job of turning it into bacon. Then cook said bacon over a fire, wood for which being processed by your Becker. Then eat with a cold brewski, opened with a BK11. If that's not a test of Beckerhead skills, I don't know what is.

Mylar "survival blankets" take a lot of guff for not being very durable, and for being over-hyped. But I can say this much... one saved my bacon one time when a tent got badly torn up in a storm and I had to use it for a makeshift tarp. That right there convinced me that for the price and space they take up, it's worth having a couple.

...vituperation...

WOTD

Nice use of the 5$ word..

For what they can do, and the plethora of ways they can do it, they are well worth the small amount of space they take up. If one has some duct tape and some craftiness one can make them a bit easier to manage, more durable, etc... or even repair them if needed, and for what they can do (namely, save your bacon) I think one belongs in every kit, even if just as a backup.

I got a lot of those $5 words in my lexicon. Absquatulate is probably my favorite word though. Means, "to go off and squat elsewhere."

Good use of plethora, Derek :D

You're preachin' to the choir, brother :)

Also, a handful of zip-ties.

Nice!

Duct tape is almost the only thing you need...if it can't be fixed with duct tape, it probably can't be fixed! As for the mylar blanket, my bacon has been saved by those things on more than one occasion, so I always try to fit one into the kit no matter what. Some of them are even fairly sturdy....one of the ones that saved my shanks was a well used leftover from a Boston Marathon years gone by. Wish I could've kept it.

Right on, Granite! Y'all most likely already know this... but if you unroll a buncha duct tape from the cardboard core and wind it back up on itself, it can still be re-unrolled and will be plenty sticky enough for, y'know, survival stuff. Several yards takes up only a couple cubic inches in a kit, BOB, etc... and weighs basically nothing.

ETA: plus, they make duct tape in cool patterns like pink leopard and Hello Kitty graphics nowdays... and we all know how important a friendly little psychological boost can be when you're out in the cold rainy where-the-heck-am-I.

The Hello Kitty duct tape would certainly raise my spirits. Especially after I taped it to a tree and ventilated it a bit.
