Dual Survival

well, maybe i'm just too "anti-hippie" :)

I just think wanting to become more one with the earth should take a back seat to safety. but that's just me.

Cody's smart and knows way more than I do that's for sure, I just would want shoes.

He describes himself as a hippie, so I go with it.

The only real bad thing about hippies is they tend to shower much less than the people around them would like them to.

As far as shoes, I almost never wore shoes either. I've had podiatrists in the past tell me my skin on my feet was like leather, and hard to get the lidocaine needle in to remove ingrown toenails.

However, since becoming diabetic, my feet are so neuropathic that I can't feel anything until SERIOUS damage is done, so I can't go without shoes anymore. Like right now, I can't do any hiking because I got a blister on my foot. I didn't even feel it until it was the size of a half dollar. Most people would have been screaming on the ground long before. Unfortunately, for a diabetic, these can take 12-20 weeks to heal.

Bottom line: I won't gig him too hard on the no shoes thing, although even he said it was stupid to do in the swamp.

I am really enjoying the show. I have been a Dave Canterbury fan for a while and followed him on youtube, his sling-bow idea was awesome!

I agree that I am not sure how many places they can visit, however, if you consider terrible reality shows can last 10 seasons I hope that Dave and Cody get a few good years out of this one!

It already looks like they've worn out the basic premise of the show and need to mix things up. Every episode kind of follows the same formula...Cody sets up the home base and dave hunts meat.

They've pretty much done every basic environment type already as well. Maybe they can do an urban episode. That'd be fun.

I agree 100%.. so much crap make it to many seasons.. always hope that any kind of survival show have a long run!

the Sling Bow is AWESOME! I made mine with some old PCV pipe I had lying around and some inner tube (ranger band). Some chicago screws, washers...just awesome.

I replaced the slingshot in the BOB with the sling bow. It's much more a "natural pointer" to me...and it's very light and I don't have to carry ammo - just a take down arrow or use a "found" stick. Not the range of a slingshot...but it works for me.

Like Dave a lot...and Cody is interesting...think I've seen 3 shows so far...but maybe it's just 2.

I tend to wear flip flops everywhere, except work and the trails near my house. So thats about as close to barefoot as i get which is pretty good IMO.

Agreed, great show. I love how Cody brings physics into his explanations (not that Dave doesn't). I'm reading one of his books atm and it is great!

All I know is its the best survival show I've seen I hope it lasts.

I'd like opinions from you guys about water purification.

Instead of carrying water tabs or filtration systems with you why couldn't you just carry a small bottle of bleach?2 to 4 drops per quart a small bottle could go along way so why not just do that?

yeah...gimme aligators, swamps, barefoot thru the poloar ice cap...ANYTHING but Walmart at 5AM on black friday! yuk!

Cody loudin (sp?) is far from a moron (definition: a person of subnormal intelligence); rather, he is just the opposite. He is a very intelligent man.

The only reason people see him as lacking intelligence is because of his minimalist approach to live. He doesn't require every creature comfort items there are; he isn't a materialistic person, unlike about 95% of all Americans.

there's only one way to survive that situation...don't find yourself put into it in the first place.

my Katadyn Pro Hiker doesn't take up that much room for me not to take it. JMHO

I respect both their skill sets. Even though they have different philosophies I like they they both work together. I definitely can learn from both of them.
