Economic stimulus- Laminated steel give away.

Well here is the first finished billet before I twist it, 36 layers for a bolder pattern. I have it in the acid now just to take a sneak peak. I'm not sure what pattern or layer count I'm gonna do for the second billet.

You guys are getting the equivalent of $900 bucks of damascus if purchased from a "name brand" maker; so make something pretty. OR ELSE ;);):) hehehe

Wow, no kidding?! Is that $900 collectively or individually? How many winners are getting a hunk?

Hahahahaha I'll take #2

you wait, this threads going to explode again with people wanting to enter a closed contest

No kidding, if sold as 1/8x1 by a well known maker its worth $900 collectively, and five winners are getting a peice with a total of 12 cubic inches. The two billets will make 180% of whats needed for this contest so I hope to be able to cover the propane cost with the extra 80%.

ED4406 it might help if you read more than the title and didn't post exclusively in give-away threads. :jerkit::jerkit:

Hey Dan,

Thanks for the clarity...and for the generous and meaningful gifts! May your business thrive!

All the best, Phil

GAAAAHHHH! While working wrought iron chain on saturday my hammer's motor burnt up. I bought it rebuilt with the hammer and it fried after 20 hours of work.:(:(

So now the plan is to buy a new Baldor motor but I will need to have a drive pulley custom made because of the belt my hammer runs on. Unless someone knows of a store that sells flat belt drive pulleys with an ID of 1-1/8. :grumpy:

I will now go quietly insane for the next week and a half while I wait for the parts.

EDIT- Turns out the Baldor 7.5hp has the right sized shaft and it will only increase my electric bill by $5 per 40 hour week compared to the 5hp. Once the new motor arrives it will take me one day before I'm back in production.
I'll rebuild the 5hp in the future for use on a rolling mill... or a grinder. Hmmmm

Well the motor and magnetic starter will be here by 4pm, and the pulley puller should be here by monday. So it looks like I'll be back up and running by tuesday.

Thanks again for your patience guys! I didn't realize that I would run into so many issues. So winners, what size wrought iron do you use for guards? To make up for the wait you get a free piece big enough for 3 guards.

You aint gotta do that, We are getting more than enough for free. Thanks for this.

So when translated to northerner that means 1-1/4"x1/2"x6" twisted wrought iron riiiight??? ;);)

I've got a good source of wrought at a good price. I'm gonna be selling it in bar form so I'm not loosing much by giving some away. :)

And your welcome, its the least I can do to pay back the community that has thought me so much and continue to teach me.

PS Am I the only one here who speaks enough Spanish to know what pancho means?

You figured out my secret South Texan code. Thanks I haven't used Wrought Iron yet but I will do my best to make ya proud amigo.

Hey Dan,

Yep, I think may have hit the nail on the head. Being a former North Easterner myself, I would take a slightly different tact. Something like... "Well that's mighty kind of you. Do whatever you think. Just surprise me."

Thanks a lot. Take it easy. All the best, Phil

Just wanted to let you guys know the hammer is running again and working much better because of a few changes I made to it. I'm busy with school work and farm work this weekend but next week I'm gonna make new tongs and then finish the damascus.

Thanks for you patience.

Maybe this one should be closed, and a post contest/update thread be started?

I'm not sure it'd make a difference. Some folks would still try and enter.

Glad to hear the good news about your hammer Dan. Take your time.
