Economic stimulus- Laminated steel give away.

Bryce, if you go to the thread, and click on the number of your specific post (like this one is #123) it will open only that post in a new window. Then you can copy that addy and use it for your link. I just realized that recently. :o The server gets snotty if you try to post the same pic in different threads, even when you re-name them... no idea why.

Here's another way maybe. I just click on the photo in the original post (not the post's number). A new window (or tab) is opened displaying just the photo. Copy that URL which is just for the photo. Then paste it in using the image tool (the mountain icon) in your new thread/post. The photo will display in any post you want this way.

Where in michigan?

The upper pinisula, I don't have the zip code right now. If you have any trucker friends that go from MI to NY I would be forever grateful. We are looking at 5-10 tons for the first load.

Well Dewey we have silage trucks(semi truck used for farming), don't have to be 18 or have a special license to drive one hehehe. But I don't think my grandfather would approve. :p

Holy toledo, holy smokes, holy cow, holy moly and holy shitake...

Who would have thunk. I never win. I mean never! THANKS Dan! Take your time because I still have to get my little shop reset up too and get my Christmas knife finished for poor James Robertson FIRST. The good news is I have one of the three very little "slabs" poured and "roofed" over.

THANKS again Dan! and All the best, Phil

Thanks for the approval to take my time. I feel really bad when I keep people waiting but I went to the doctor yesterday and for a while I shouldn't even move my anvil because it could rupture my spline... I'm working with little giant hammers to get my dies but since the dimensions are 5-1/2" tall by 6" wide by 8" long for each one... might be a bit pricey.

Back to work we go!

Just trying to keep the winners in the loop without sending a bunch of PMs and emails. I ordered the last of the steel from the machine shop for the forge and retort, but it has been delayed until Monday and the steel for the dies won't be here until Thursday next week. My buddy is coming up tonight and we will be finishing hooking up the hammers clutch and brake.

Thanks for the update Dan. Can't wait, but still take your time and don't worry about us coming over with pitch forks. If it was food then thats a different story.

Hey Dan,

All's cool out here in the middle of the big puddle. I will gratefully receive whatever you want to send whenever you want to send it.

Have fun...all is one, Phil

Where in michigan?

My shop (49919 zip), then we'll need to head due N ~ 70+ miles into the Keweenaw. Thats where the pellets & DRI are located.

Whoever mentioned the dump truck, thats a great idea
Either that or a pick-up with a heavy trailer (5th wheel type?) to haul the goods. The truck/trailer would probably be the most economical way, when you consider gas milage.

Either way IMHO would be better than shipping via 55 gal palletized drums $$$$$$ ;)

I'd love to get Dan hooked up as soon as possible. I'm sure between all of us hard headed steel freaks we can network together some transpo.

Like the man said .......... " Where there's a will there's a way "

Well based on the distance, gas for my buddy's truck would only be well under $300, about $300 for his troubles, and the cost of a U-haul 4 wheel car trailer. I'll talk to Mitch today and see if he would be interested... The lower the price I can get it for the lower I can supply it to anyone who wants it. EDIT- Unless they want it by the ton, then its cheaper to go though David.

David I have a bunch of welding to do tomorrow but I'll give ya a jingle during one of my breaks. I'd call today but I have a shift on the farm then me and Mitch are working on the hammer clutch.

Update.
The retort is finished and I'm running it tomorrow. I finally have all the metal to finish the hammer. Also I'm going to try to get the clay for the new forge on tuesday, this took a lot longer than I expected but I'm hoping it will finish quick. :)

The hammer dies and the plates that are being welded on top.

Thanks for your patience guys!

To keep ya guys in the loop, the hammer clutch and brake are finished. Mitch is welding my dies tomorrow and I'm going to order the supply's to make a new vertical welding forge on wensday.

Well the hammer is up and running, it works GREAT! I'm placing my supply order tonight and I'm going to practice using the hammer for the next few days. Once the new welding forge is finished it shouldn't be more than 3 days before your steel is ready! Thanks again for your patience!

I did the first weld and draw on the first of the two billets today but I need to modify my one hammer die shim and replace or modify two pins on the hammer before I continue. I'll probably finish at least one billet by friday night.

Thanks for the update, but....

If a billet welds in a shop and there are no pictures posted, does it really make an impression?

:o:p;)

Fine fine I'll get a pic :), btw it was a 1-1/2"x1-1/2"x6" billet. The hammer welded it with one hit. :D:D:D Although the vibration in the shop knocked my forge blower off; thus resulting in a sore leg from running outside to turn off the propane... but I'm alive so its all good. Duct taped that sucker on good this time. :D

edit- raw billet on the right and the welded on the left.

edit- I just got the parts for making the new pins, the hammer should be going full bore by tonight.
