Nothing else is needed. I don't feel the need to load myself up with anything else.

In use, can you tell any difference using a Damascus steel?

Thanks.

Hi, yes the damascus steel is stainless but the picture link to eBay shows a regular, unfolded stainless example.

As for telling a difference in using? Only slightly. When 'dulled' the damascus seems to acquire a 'rough' edge which allows the knife to continue being useable, or more useable than it seems with normal steels at the same relative hardness.

I like the damascus stainless for looks and ease in sharpening. One or two passes on steel, stone or leather (definitely use leather when possible) is usually sufficient to put it back in hair-popping readiness.

Right Front (RF): Benchmade 42 butterfly knife.
Left Front (LF): Keys, change, and money clip with cash.
Left Back (LB): Pack of gum and my silver bullet Fischer Space Pen.
Right Back (RB): Wallet.

This is interesting - as Damascus steel seems to have acquired this reputation for "micro-serrations"......

It does seem to make sense - IF the steel is folded orthogonal/right-angles to the edge - as opposed to the much more normal parallel direction to the edge (giving the very attractive contour map like pattern toward the edge).

If the folds were in the direction of the edge how would it acquire a "rough" or micro-serrated edge?

Thanks.

Hey, fresh blood here. I've been lurking for a while and learned quite a lot, but I'm still probably a greenhorn.

My EDC gear:

CRKT M16-01KE (compact, plain-edge spearpoint, green handle).
Zippo, plain black
Inova X5, black
flower-folded leather pouch containing: a few quarters; Wiha System-4 microbits: #1 phillips, 4mm slotted, Torx T8
Wiha System-4 ESD-safe handle (this and the above bits not only for knives, but computers, too)
pen

I also carry a CRKT M16-14FD at work, and just keep it in my bookbag at college. Since I take the bookbag to work as well, I also keep a S&W SWAT knife (full-size) in there, so that I have a knife available that I don't mind lending to a co-worker. I never, ever lend the primary EDC blade.

Planning to get a BM Osborne (probably 943BT) to add to my EDC (rather than replace anything).

Misc. Note: The action on the 3" M16 is smooth as silk after removing the BreakFree and applying Militec-1 and heat the last 3 nights, even with the pivot screw 1/4 turn from completely tightened.

Welcome to the Forum.

The Wiha System-4 looks interesting - can you please tell me whether the handle is better at being "anti-static" over a plain metal handle like commonly found on jeweller's drivers?

Have you seen the Victorinox CyberTool series?

filosofem, beautiful picture and a a nice looking edc. i gotta ask though, all those beautiful blackwoods and you don't carry any of them with you? is it the laws in your area? also the keyring you have there, is it the KYR70/ST LOOP Key-ring, stainless steel/rubber? cuz the one you have looks like paracord. do you know a good retailer for that?

my edc has changed a bit but i haven't gotten a chance to take another picture yet.

Pete

Hello pjenkins00,

sometimes I carry my Blackwood Hunter or the Fiend, but they are too good for rough EDC use. ;)

The keyring is the KYR70/ST LOOP. It was a version with leather. But after a few months, a changed the leather to paracord.

On the Troika HP you can find dealers for the USA and Canada.

This week. . .a G.W. Hawk DOG. High polished hardware/hollow-grind with polished blue/black micarta inserts.

SWEET ! :D

Today my EDC is a Spyderco Native III Yesterday it was a Uncle Henry 3 bladed Stockman. My EDC is whatever I feel in the mood to grab in the morning. I almost always carry my leatherman clipit...I use the dickens out of it. Usually the pliers and phillips screwdriver. I also like to carry a CRKT mirage, cool looking knife

This - apart from the SAK which is in my backpack!

Light, comfortable and discreet!
Edit because I forgot to proof read!

For me its pretty simple, me being a BLADERIGGER PRODUCTS fan i usually carry my omega 3 checkbook and a customised omega jr money/creditcard wallet blade.Had James grind off the hook part of the blade for me and grind a straight edge on it,. makes a nice gentlemans knife. But im currently trying out a new TOPS A.L.E.R.T been in my possesion a week now.Makes a great little utility knife. Also carry on my key ring a photon micro light. Thats about it.:)

finally got imagestation to work right...

fb117b5f.jpg

add .orig.jpg to see the bigger version.

i pared down some of what i carry and only carry the other stuff if i feel the need or think i might need it.

the flashlight on the top goes on the belt (titanium clip still holds tight) (wish my e2e had one, i might not have lost it
  )

the rest of the stuff is in quadrants, top left equals front left, bottom right equals right rear etc.

so we have:
crk large sebenza (leftie)
lg vx-4400 cell phone with verizon

credit cards with tiny cross pen/stylus (that i use only as a pen)
leatherman juice S2 on lanyard
in 5th pocket:
small lighter
chapstick
cmg sonic
sparklite (thanks bquinlan, was it, for suggesting to carry it by itself, i feel much more prepared)
and often a modified mini fox-40

then in left rear,
currently just spyderco mouse (sometimes a small notebook or spare battery for my phone)

and in right rear
bandanna and hankerchief
pilot g2 pen

ok so i've been carrying that for a bit and it works like a charm in jeans although i have to move stuff around a bit for different pants/shorts.

there are a couple things i'd like to replace however. Like i'd like to replace the regular bandanda with the mighty cool looking bandando from bladerigger (anyone have/use/like on of those by the way) and the g2 pen with something stronger/nicer that could be used as a kobuton if need be. i'd love to have something like that (rotring 600 series?) that i could take on a plane/into courtrooms if necessary.

the rest of the stuff except maybe the phone seems perfect but i'm always on the lookout for somethign better. (oh yeah and i want to get a photon II yellow to wear around the neck)

Anyway, the question i have for the rest of you guys is do you have something that you want to replace with something else in your daily carry, or just something you'd like to add. am i just a freak or does anyone else think of the nicest/ideal carry assuming money wasn't an issue. so does anyone have something in their carry rotation that they want to replace with something nicer/more applicable to their uses or something they'd like to add? let us know :).

Thanks for the welcome.

I've seen the CyberTool before at the Victorinox site, but just now visiting the site, I couldn't find details on the exact bit sizes included. I don't really like SAKs anyway. I have a SAK Tinker, and only occasionally use it, rarely taking it out of the house. I prefer to keep cutting tools and leverage tools separate.

The ESD safe handle is completely plastic, and uses a bearing to retain the bits rather than a magnet (like the standard handle does). A metal jeweller's driver would allow static charge to travel from you body to whatever electronic component you're working on. If you ground yourself, you don't really need to worry. There's also a 4" extension that came with it, which is good for reaching through screwdriver holes on older computer cases.

The main reason I chose the set I did (#75992 on this page; phillips, standard, torx, inch hex) is that it included just about any bit I'd need to use, and then some. I especially needed small Torx bits, but couldn't find anything smaller than a T6 elsewhere. At the time, the pocket clip screws on my M16-01KE were coming loose, and are T5s, so the most I could do before I received the Wiha set was check them once in a while and tighten them with my finger a little. Not very efficient. Now they're nice and snug.

The red CMG Sonic (LED flashlight) looks pretty - did you see the beamshot/time-plot comparsion between the Sonic and ArcAAA over at CandlePowerForums?

I note you want to carry a yellow Photon II from your necklace(?) - are you considering some quick detach method? If so what, please?

Also you might want to note Photon only rates the Photon II as splash resistant - this might be a consideration if worn next to the skin - whereas both the Photon I and 3 are rated as water-resistant - however I can't see this, since I have a Photon I and water can easily get into the battery compartment (similar to the Photon II)

no, i actually haven't been spending much time over at cpf lately. too much here or at unicyclist.com/forums :) When i do make it over there it's mostly the modified lights forum anyways (they come up with such cool stuff)

yeah, i dunno, i don't have any quick release mechanism in mind at the moment, if anyone has any ideas that would be cool. they way i've been using it now is just to squeeze it or put it on constant on and use it while it's still on the necklace and just let the light bounce of my shirt sort of. it's not ideal but it gives me plenty of light to walk around the house at night, etc. maybe a tiny caribeaner would work, but i'd rather it printed as little as possible. i thought about the quick release things they use on keys, but it seems a little bulky and uncomfortable. i want the yellow because of the reasons you and others have mentioned about yellow light and because it'd be nice to have something with longer runtime than the sonic and the mclux(which is awesome by the way). yeah, i wish the photon 2 was water proof or at least water resistant because then i wouldn't have to take it off when I shower, a quick release would be good for this too. i dunno, i don't think i'd want a photon I because i don't want to lose the constant on. i guess the photon III could work, the lower light levels could be useful. do they make the photon III in yellow?
I guess one way of doing it could be to wrap a loop around the necklace like you would a beltloop. i dunno, anyone else carry a photon around the neck and do you have any suggestions as far as quick release goes?

also anyone else looking to upgrade their edc in some way?

Pete

[edit: oh yeah, i also wish they would make the photon II with the same method of battery change as the photon IIIs, i don't know if it would help with water resistance but it sure would make it easier. ]

[edit #2: also i want to add one of those pocket duct tape things mentioned in g&g, they look really cool ]

Today was one of those heavy days...
Only used half the "bladed tools", and could have made do with less than that, but sometimes it's just fun to have a bunch of cool stuff on you.
fb0b3939.jpg

Guess I'll list all this junk, like everybody else:
Let's see, there's a Seiko ti watch, Fisher blue lacquer space pen, a black Vnox Recruit, a BM 940Ti, a keyring with spy capsule w/tagamet, a white Photon II, and a black Vnox Classic, then the DDR CF ArcLite neck knife, Simonich Mid-Tech Bitteroot-I hang it from a belt loop,
LM ST200, D&B wallet, Alka-Seltzer Heartburn Relief (man's single greatest accomplishment of the century, IMO), a kubotan, SF E2E w/KL1, and a Pilot pen.
The brootiful background for this crappy pic provided by an office chair, and my new Alabama cap.
Roll Tide!!!!:D
