Elusive Schrades

My dad gave these to me a few weeks ago. I’m on the waiting list of glennbad glennbad and will be sending the one with no handle material left. The blade is close to pristine. Not bad for close to 50 years old. No where near as old as many in this thread, but my first Schrade Walden’s. The stockman was left outside by him as a teen and was lost for a year before he found it.

For a while I was collecting the most Economical Schrade Jacks!! I didn't know it would turn out to be rare, but yours is only the second one I have seen!! Ha Ha!!

That fluted sway back is one of the coolest Schrades I've seen, I really like
their single blade rope/agricultural patterns with wood handles. What's the model number on that one?

Posted on another thread but I think it also fits right in here...

These 4" Stockman Knives are somewhat hard to find! Here is a Schrade Walden, over a Schrade Cut Co. In comparing the two eras, I find the Cut Co era is slightly nicer than the later Schrade Waldens!! Look at the swedges for instance!!4 inch Stockman 1.jpg4 inch Stockman 2.jpg

I tend to agree with you Charlie. The old Schrade Cut. Co. was top notch. Hard to find better knives.

On my Schrade Walden Farmers Jack, however, I think the workmanship was very very nice. Maybe it was an early Schrade Walden. As with many of the cutlery companies, it seems that quality slides downward, as time passes on. Case is a fine example of that.

Nice FJ, Mr.P!!!

That's a real eye-catcher! Hard to find pattern for sure.

The more elegant swedge found in older Cut. Co. knives translates to smaller pen-blade patterns as well.

Here's a 2-1/4" Schrade Cut. Co. 7606 with a HERDER, PHILA (Herder Cutlery, Philadelphia) stamp. It was an unexpected surprise to find this odd variation in near-factory condition. Blade sits dead-center in the well. Until now, I was unaware that Schrade had stamped some of these for Herder's.

Picked up this extremely nice Peach Seed Bone Schrade for Sears under their Craftsman brand name, very happy with this one, and a nice addition to the Sears gathering that seems to be going on in our House 🤣
There are plenty of Composite Peach Seed's that you would swear are Bone- This is the Genuiiiine stuff!
