Elusive Schrades

Thanks for that! I'm not familiar with Catalog E though. What year is that from?

Edit: I found it from 1926 with supplements for later years.

Dan, catalog E is about the earliest Schrade Cut Co catalog out there (I do have a "D" which is a bit earlier but pretty much identical). Although the catalog dates to 1926 a majority of the knives in there go back to the very earliest days of Schrade's existence. The pick bone handles on your knife would put it in that category.

Wow. Thanks for that info! So if I understand correctly then, my knife is older than 1926 but based on the tang stamp is no older than 1917? Thanks!

Dan it's older than that. The straight stamps were done right from the beginning, and I believe that pattern was done almost right from the start. Here's a cut center scale template along with a blade tang gauge I found in the old factory toolroom. That'd put the knife at least at 1912. Incidentally the gauge would have been for the blade on your knife, the cut center was for the four blade version.

Very cool stuff. Thank you!

This 3-1/2" Schrade Walden unicorn isn't listed in any of the available catalogs or pricelists. It's the first like this that I've seen.

It matches the Schrade Cut. Co. 8923 as listed in the 1926 catalog E. If its name changed the way other very similar patterns did then this would have been called a Schrade Walden 892.

Very nice example.

You will see these with a spey instead of pen and they are stamped and catalogued as the 890. I have yet to see an “890 pen” with a pattern stamp, and yes it should be an 892. Another one of the patterns they continued to make for some amount of time but never seemed to catalogue or indicate it’s existence in the walden era.

Schrade made some beautiful knives for Parker-Frost in the late 1970s!!
This liner-lock slim Trapper, has a faint etch I couldn't capture that says
"Little Bandit", with a pic of a racoon, on the blade. The Redbone handle has pocketworn finish; a bright dark Red!!Parker Frost Bandit 1.jpgParker Frost Bandit 2.jpgParker Frost Bandit 3.jpg
