Elusive Schrades

Charlie! Astounding. I, too, have been looking for that bottom jack forever. Gorgeous.

Here is a Schrade Cut 8174 3/4. It's 3 5/8" closed. The sheepsfoot has a half stop. Great old cattle knife.

Unclean, unclean!!!:eek::eek:

And that's the way it should be!!!:D
Beautiful authentic collectible condition! Real and unadulterated! Genn-you-whine!!!
Wonderful, wonderful find, Hal!

All these old 'Schrades' are so fine, and Hal your SCC Cattle knife is a beauty ! (my earlier assessment was completely wrong).

This thread only wakes up a few times a year! These rarer Schrades are getting harder to find I guess.
Everyone's favorite Auction site yielded these two.
The first, which showed up in the Schrade Cut Co 1936 catalog supplement, was called a Balloon pattern (from the shape of the bolsters - like hot air balloons of its time) with a Zulu Spear main blade. (There is another knife like this, earlier in this thread!) This blade was the inspiration for Case's Tribal spear of recent times. It is essentially a modified Wharncliffe, and is a very useful shape IMO. Nice shape, the knife has probably seen a little Simi-chrome polish. I like this color of Peachseed bone handle, and the size and shape in general!

The second knife is an unusual variation of a Cattle knife pattern, intended for telegraph points, or car tune-ups, or radio work - anyone know???
A spear main, pen secondary, and a good sized single-faced file/screwdriver blade!!!
As found condition, lightly used and full, I'd love to know what it's intended use actually was. Only one I've ever come across!

Charlie, great to see you're still actively pursuing those gems, apparently you haven't lost your touch!!! That knife was originally in the catalog as a #8463 automobile and camper's knife (see page 22) with one of the big multi purpose can opener-cap lifter-presto lite holed blades in place of the pen. The file is described as a screwdriver-wire scraper file. Great finds!

Hey Eric! Thanks for looking it up. I see it resembles the Automobile and Electrician's model above it - same big file.
For those who don't know, Eric and I are referring to a 1926 to 1938 collection of Scrade Cut Co supplements, reproduced several years ago.

Ha! So it does, apparently I have some serious tunnel vision since I didn't even notice that one!:D

A few more very sweet additions Charlie! How about finishing off the kitchen and giving others a chance at these eBay delights....................Just kidding of course.

Charlie,

Glad the Balloon pattern make it ok! Very full master in that frame.

I am curious about the 8436 pattern. It looks as if it has three springs?

How rude of me not to include the knifemakers view!!
Here it is, Ken!
2 springs, with the center liner cut way down. Everything crinked out of the way for that big, honking file/driver! Thin spacer to give the pen some room.

Russell, buying these knives has preserved my sanity! That kitchen is down to the niggling details! Lookin' nice, I must say. I'll have to stage some knives in it!!;)

Beautiful knives, Charlie. Congrats on those prizes.

I've prized pocket tools with files for a number of years. I find them so handy when doing small fixits.
