Elusive Schrades

I think it's the same as the one in Gev's post directly above yours, post # 639.
- Gev??

I was thinking the same about that spear bladed peanut. Never seen that one before.

There was an old curmudgeon around here who said (paraphrased) Never be surprised about Schrade - there are a lot of non-catalogue items and oddballs. I think he was a retired Lieutenant!;)

I suspect Hal will know!!

Hal, you are up to bat!!:D

It appears it may be an 895 ( little searching..its a new one to me ), but mine says Stainless Steel on the pile side of the Turkish clip. Looks to me made from the 20s-50s. Yes....Hal will know!

I'm saying it's a 895 (now corrected below) with carbon steel blades... note NY with no USA in the stamp, good dating info.

Just so happens I have a reference piece... late 40's early 50's. It's like Gev's at 3 9/16".

I am pretty sure the one in Mark's photo (post 635) is an 861 (4" because it's longer than the cattle knife, bolsters not threaded like the 895 or 825). The one at the top of the Maher and Grosch photo is an 890?

This thread is a killer!, Marks knives are unbelievably beautiful...Charlie they look as though they are straight from your collection, Mark never visited at any time did he? :D

This chap Mark....does he still collect?

["This chap Mark....does he still collect?'] Yes, with much more discrimination than me!
Mark has a fine collection, much more sophisticated than my mish-mash.
I think we've only met at several Oregon Shows, but we share a love for those Peachseed beauties, and related knives.
Mark enjoys photography, and it certainly helps him show his knives. I feel lucky that he shares the pics with me/us!

Absolutely Charlie, so obviously he doesnt hang around here - thats a shame, be nice to see his input as well.

It must be that these knives shown from yours ( Charlie ) and Marks, and of course Hal, are very rare in the way of being obtainable now.
I am certainly MOST happy to owning just one...all be it far from the calibre of the examples shown.
It must be an amazing experience coming across one of these for sale at those shows...but I suspect it would be word of mouth amongst collectors before they are placed on any sales table!.... beautiful knives.

Mish Mash?... a beautiful array of Mish Mash if you ask me Charlie.

This is my example ( as shown before )...is it the same model guys? ...this does have the USA in the stamp..

Hal, exactly what does the inclusion or lack of the USA in the tang stamp tell us? I remember reading about an ACT that required the USA in the stamp but can't remember where I read it. If you can point to the ref. I would appreciate it.

I don't know which thread to reference, but after Schrade Cut Co stamps were replaced with Schrade Walden stamps, the first ones did not have USA, and were marked SCHRADE/WALDEN/N.Y. Generally they were stamped on all blades like a SCHRADE CUT CO, with no pattern stamp. This began around 1946 or 1947. These stamps continued into the early 1950's. It varied from pattern to pattern, but eventually some were only marked on the master blade, and/or started having the pattern stamp on the back of the master. By the time USA was added, most of them were marked on the master blade with SCHRADE/WALDEN/N.Y. U.S.A, and had the pattern on the back side. That continued until 1973, when WALDEN was dropped, long after the move to Ellenville.

Hal the top M & G has a punch, so is an 891.
