Elusive Schrades

While I normally stay away from most celluloid like the plague, I do love the old French ivory cel. I've found it to be quite stable normally -- if it's managed to make it this long without serious shrinkage or breakdown, it seems to be good for the distance. I think there's enough filler in it to stabilize it pretty well in general. Love that equal end - that's a beauty, even has a nail ease notch for the budding blade. Charlie, do you have one of the Schrade shadow roostercomb patterns in ivory cel? Those are sweet.
I have been introduced of late to this thread by the leading gentleman and knife philanthropist Charlie "Waynorth". What a treasury!

I hope this is what "zerogee" was looking for and is still here to enjoy. Although I have never heard of one gassing, the French ivory is in solitude confinement.

I am now pretty much dedicated to this pattern. I will try to get better pictures next time. The RS7304W Schrade Cut French Ivory Farmers jack aka rooster comb. It is the only one of this pattern listed on page 100 of Catalog E & Supplements that does not have flat blades. Schrade brought their line of flat blades out in 1932,although they are shown only on the grafting knives and the budding knives in 1932. The flat blades are explained on page 86 of selfsame Catalog E & Supplements. The farmers are not shown with flat blades in the Catalog E until 1936. This design resulted in a "beautifully flat and undamaged surface to every cut",making more efficient grafting.

I was surprised that Schrade did not list this pattern until 1932. Does this mean they did not make this pattern until 1932?

This S7309F Fibestos Schrade Cut is not mine, but it's picture was given to me by the owner. It is in this forum elsewhere, and was part of my initiation into collecting this pattern. It shows the flat blade side on the budding blade with bark loosener ( what a great blade). I sure would like to own one with blades like these.:D:thumbup::thumbup: I do not have a picture of the flat side of the pruner blade, but is the same, per Catalog E.

Thanks for the rare knives, Lyle! That's what keeps this thread alive and well, even though it is prone to long naps!

Thought I would post this one in here as well.

A little different twist on the old Schrade Golden Spike

Looks like Herman Williams work!?
Very nice!!

Also, I forgot to ask; Yours appears to have rivets holding the scales? Do you have a photo showing the butt end?

Will see if I can get one, but it is a solid piece if I recall fitted to the Stag.

Here's an older Schrade Cut Dogleg Jack, with Celluloid handles. It sits on our friend Mark's desk, so he decided to take a scan, and send it over. Most of us, Mark and me included, I think are a little leery of Celluloid, and so have few of them in our collections. I must say, the few Schrades I have with Cell, are in remarkably good condition, for what it is worth.
The paper represented in the etch on the blade, published between 1914 and 1941.
Celluloid has a wonderful translucent (if ephemeral) quality which, while coming close, has yet to be duplicated by modern plastics.

Indeed. Some of the old celluloid fountain pens are the most beautiful I have ever seen.

I love the shape of this dogleg Schrade. I know it may be sacreligious to say so on such a thread, but I would love to have this frame and blade configuration in a shadow pattern with amboyna burl.

I'd even settle for cocobolo.

Folks, I am not too sure as to whether this knife should be here.
This knife is unused!, it still has the factory stropping/ buffing ( is this correct? ) just along the edge, but I am a wee bit unsure of era? so if not quite suitable pleasae let me know and I will amend.
I consider myself lucky to find a Schrade Walden NY in this condoition, but in this model it may not be such a good find, please educate me guys/gals...

Duncan that is a fine, and rare example of a Schrade rope knife, with a "WONDA-EDGE" serrated blade. They may have been produced only for a couple of Rope companies, maybe as a buyer's premium.
Nice addition to the thread, and a prize knife!!

Why thank you Charlie, I wasnt too sure as just how prevelant these were, I have seen one before in very well used condition, and a few others with the non-serrated edge - but in my mind it was a case of "whos to say that they just werent that popular" imagine this with their beautiful peach-seed bone (swoon ).

Duncan, another great knife.

Enjoy!

Off Topic, apologies in advance: I have some Barlows, but Charlie's TC Barlow design with GEC execution has a wonderfully special charm, a fitting companion to the GEC #85, another Waynorth inspiration.

Thought I would show this one here.I had the authenticity in question.BL said it may be Schrade contract,as we can see. It looks like Charlies lockback and Mark's EJ.

Certainly looks as if Schrade had a big hand in this one. Great knife, wonderful covers.

Thanks Jeff and Ken. I had it on BL's forum trying to establish authenticity or not. Nothing was ever nailed down. It looks good up close, but I'm no expert. The handles threw me off,but #'s and blades matched up and the stamp looks original.
