Epic Movie Knives

Would you have any info on the last one you refer to-(Jack Crain knife from Predator posted here) was this knife ever replicated by any production company or knifemakers out there? Certainly very nice looking knife

The only one I know of that was produced by anyone other than Crain was made by Black star knives and he's a total rip off, might as well just burn your money as give it to that guy. Crain had a lot of trouble delivering as well.

Its a pretty epic knife, 9 inch blade. Of all the hollow handle knives that one has been one of my favorites.

Thanks for info,yes i totally agree with you,(sad no one seem to be making these anywhere) I also like the design, could be very functional too,if solid premium steel and heat treatment done on it) yes,i am aware of Black Star and Britt G. story,also J.Crain....i would love to see some effort for solid reproduction of good few movie knives,as i mentioned above...It would be great to see these legends being brought back to life by those,who could pull it off and have resources to do so.

The one that had the biggest impact on me was Tristan's knife from Legends of the Fall.
It wasn't because of the looks of the knife, although it is a great looking knife. It was more because it was the knife that he carries his whole life, as a young man, when he goes to war, and even to his death as an old man. He, presumably, dies with this same knife in his hand fighting a bear. Hands down the most epic movie knife of all time.

Surely very nice story behind,that is bond between man and knife

I think,to narrow this thread down, due to so many favourite blades-would be to make a poll on lets say 10-15 most possible examples...Surely it would be great to see,which three would be backed up by most of the audience....(just my two cents)

Thats because those are the knives used in Commando I just like the smooth spine Predator version better. Back when they first came out I talked to Jack Crain quite a bit about them he was approachable and very friendly and willing to talk to customers back then.

I always had real passion for his designs on movie blades,i think he was very gifted and talented knifemaker.I am aware of feedback linked to his custom orders and despite to all of it, i think he was world's first class knife designer and skilled craftsman...His work definitely belong to Epic Movie Knives ever made

Even tho it wasn't released until I was darn near 30, the old school edged weapons used in "Gangs of New York" definitely influenced what i bought for several years.... and it still does. One of my all time favorite pictures.

No I didn't know him, just called his shop to ask about his knives back in the 80s and he took the time to talk about them and was very friendly and easy to talk to. He did first rate work, it was after he had a lot of health problems that he started being unreliable and seems like it all went downhill from there.

I'm surprised the The Iron Mistress that Alan Ladd carried as Jim Bowie in the 1952 movie of the the same name wasn't mentioned first off or more often - that monster bowie inspired a LOT of knife makers back in the day. I'll also add, since no one's mentioned it, the big Arkansas Toothpick that Anthony Caruso used as Black Jack Sturdevant in the big dueling scene with Ladd/Bowie.

And it inspired a lot of people to believe that is what Bowie's knives actually looked like! So I guess its pretty epic.

No I never did, I know he was not as prolific as Lile or Hibben.

I do not know much about Lile,but Gil Hibben seem to continue his great designs up to date,(Expandables series),,, i believe he is also still leading knifemaking classes open to those,who wish to learn knifemaking skills,which is so great opportunity for everyone interested to learn from living legend.He seem to be focused on stock removal method (not too sure if he does use also forging)... From all his countless great designs i like most Rambo III which i believe he still do custom orders, price tag about 1750,-usd a piece...Not too sure of what steel,if any is optional,but as far as i am aware he use 440C stainless for all,or most of his work...Love also Double Shadow dagger and large Expandables bowie,,,do not fancy Toothpick too much,but also nice piece.
