Absolutely. As long as the same integrity is used in selecting a foreign company as you show in everything else then we should trust your judgement! While supporting workers on our own soil is important it isn't really so easy to buy, use or make EVERYTHING in the USA.

What if any options do you have for makers in the USA?

None that we know of. We have tried contacting Benchmade and Spyderco in the past but did not hear back. So, I'm not sure who can build 2 to 3000 folders at a time in the USA. Wished I did.

My vote is yes. Lionsteel is a great choice and since you will back the folder the same way you do the Rowen fixed blades ( of which I own the ESEE-6) then I will have no reservations in purchasing the new folder when it comes out.

That's too bad. Is it safe to assume the Lion Steel responded favorably to the inquiry?

Yes, Lion Steel has been a joy to work with. Don't get me wrong, I don't fault American companies because most of the ones capable of producing what we want are running wide open and don't have any shop time to dedicate to our project. Why? because they are damn good companies putting out a good product and treating their customers right.

I trust you Jeff and everyone at ESEE, I believe you would find a company that would stick to your standards of quality and back it with what you felt was very fair. That being said I would still buy them for myself and be proud to still offer them on my site.

True.

I'm sure this has been said several times, but want to add my .02
I think most folks here know that as a principal you are going to provide a high quality product, that you can stand behind for the best cost to the consumer. That being said if you guys think Italy is the best place to get that done, then I trust your judgement on that.

I love your honesty, you guys kick ass and have made a customer for life. Hell yes I will buy a folder from you no matter where it's made.

One of the things I like about Gianni and Lion Steel is they have a great name in the business and have plenty of business, so they don't need our business but at the same time treat us like a million dollar customer every time we email them or ask them questions or have concerns. I just have a lot of respect for the way they operate and that tells me a lot about who I want to do business with. The down side to us is they are not a USA company, they operate on the Euro so price fluctuates with us depending on the exchange rate and they're not close enough for us to be at the shop working out issues if need be. Luckily we have Tom on our team and he only lives about a 3 hour drive from Gianni's shop, so actually we have a man on the ground in Europe that can help us get projects exactly as we want them. And when it comes to design, Tom is first class.

I voted no however I would like to clarify one point. I keep reading about "trust". "Trust" has nothing to do with my decision to vote no. I just wanted to put that out there. Jeff and Mike have nothing but respect from me for the product they produce and the loyalty to their product and customers. I trust their folder will be the very best and they'll stand behind them to a point of borderline fault.

The decision to vote no is a commitment issue I made, not a trust issue that it wont be the made to the standard that made ESEE knives great.

We know, understand and very MUCH appreciate that. I have full respect for your decision. I really do. And trust me when I say we don't take it personally at all . ;)

Did you try Kershaw? Buck? Just wondering, as I know they've done "ghost production" or contract work in the past.

Well, all of the above is pretty damned reasonable and makes me feel better about my "yes" vote. Put all this up there in your OP.

I understand, that's too bad.

Let me preface though some of what I said earlier in the thread and neglected to say.

While I may like to buy products made in the USA, I do realize that it's not always possible. Hell, it's pretty much impossible in this day and age on items large and small. I own my share of goods that weren't made here.

When presented with an option though, I'll opt for the item made stateside, I just believe in trying to keep the money close to home as often as possible even if it means a few dollars more.

In your case it certainly sounds like you've exhausted all options to keep it stateside, and I hope it doesn't make me sound like a hypocrite, but that does change my tune some on this matter. You guys have at least tried to keep it "local" with the folder and that counts for something with me.
