I should have read the whole post before I punched out the chad.:o
I read the question as open to anywhere in the world. From a quality maker like Lion Steel, yeah, o-kay. If quality control is high, and issues are addressed, warranties backed up, you bet!
America, tho' I love to 'buy American,' is not the only place excellent knives are made! Japan, Sweden, Germany, Italy and Spain are known to me as producing fine steels and knives.

I voted yes, and will take a folding izula and folding ESEE-3 matched set. I can never wear a fixed blade daily due to job and a folder needs to be discreet. thanks for the opportunity to provide input.

I voted no only because I already have a hard-use Lion Steel product on order and I don't think I need two of them. If the ESEE Folder was built in the USA, it would probably make me cancel my other order and wait for this one instead. I have no doubt an Italian made ESEE product would perform at least as well as an American made product, and I know it would perform to ESEE's and this community's standards. A US-made ESEE folder would be something I would be proud to carry every day. The Italian-made ESEE folder just makes me say 'meh'. I can't find the words to exactly express how I feel about it, but that's the basic gist of it.

The proto is great looking, its the first time i"ve really gotten excited in a while about a folder. Who else does Lion Steel make knives for?

I live in Canada so really I could care less about were it's made as long as it's made well and at a decent price

I use Moras, SAKs, Pumas, SOGs, and others that are made overseas. I buy American when I can. But the market is what it is. Lion Steel is a class act of Old World craftsmanship.

Of course I'd prefer it be made here. But if they don't like things made in China as much as I don't. Then Okay. I'll vote yes because I trust you guys feel you are doing the right thing.

Made in the USA is becoming obsolete. Sad really. Pretty soon anything made in the USA will become a collectors item. Just sayin!

i feel more comfortable with Lionsteel than most USA makers. They make some really fantastic stuff from what Ive seen.

Honestly, I would prefer it be made in the USA. Not that LionSteel is a bad maker at all...they're great...nothing wrong with them at all.

But I feel like that's a lot of what's wrong with the U.S. anymore and has been for a very long time, too much outsourcing to save a little money. I just like seeing American companies investing in American workers even if it costs a little more. I don't mind paying the extra dollars to invest in my country...just sayin'.

People knock China...yeah...a lot of their products are crap, but they're not outsourcing jobs and look at how their economy is thriving while the rest of world is shriveling. America really needs to adopt that view again on a large scale. Perhaps that's an an extreme view for such a small thing as a knife, but the change in perception in this country is going to have to start small and build from there if we're ever to get back on track again.

Sorry Jeff, I guess I'll be in the minority here. I know LionSteel makes great knives, but I'd prefer one of the great knife makers stateside and would be willing to pay extra for it knowing it was made here.

What if any options do you have for makers in the USA?

Hi RAT -

It depends on where and by whom.

If it was Lionsteel, no problem.

I try to buy local Canadian made products whenever possible, and will even pay a bit extra for said product, but only if it is of equal or greater quality than the foreign made alternative, for me quality is paramount.

So yes I would be definitely buy this folder if the quality is there, and from what I have read of Lion Steel, and what I know of Jeff and Mike, quality will not be an issue (but I also may be a bit biased, my grandfather is from Friuli, not far from Maniago :D:thumbup: )

.

I agree with what most others have said. To me, quality is more important than where it's made.

I'd be happy to buy an ESEE folder made in Italy. I could care less where it is made to be honest. As others have mentioned the price and quality is what counts - a good quality knife at a fair price is worth buying, if the Lion Steel produced folders are good quality then THAT is what is important!

Since I am no american myself I dont really care about this change as long as the quality of the the final product does not suffer from it. As many others said already I personally support locally produced things as much as possible but only when they are inside of a limited price and quality difference.
