Ever Been Knife Dissed?

I lent a small folding knife to a guy a work.I watched him drop it on the concrete several times.I told him a little bit about the knife he wasn't interested. When I got it back a the end of the day it had chipps all down the blade and the tip was gone,he must of dropped it in the open position.Knives to most people are like prybars and hammers.I know someone that tried to tell me all stainless steel is the same and it's rust proof,"it sese stainless steel".I would also say where I live only 5% of people like or understand knives.:barf:

That why so many of the rest of us hang out here.;)

Ya the funny thing about that is that I told her the price. She told me that I got ripped off. I've never wanted to punch a chick in the face more in my entire life.

LOL! Gotta love how people feel they have the authority to place their
own values on other peoples property.

Nope no funny look. I guess she thinks she knows about knives cuz shes in the army reserves. To her a Ka Bar is the highest quality knife out there.

Maybe she's right?

No, she's not right. No matter what he paid for the knife, that was his choice. How much did she pay for her earrings or her watch? That was her right to spend that money on what she wanted.

The value of the knife to him is part utility, part excellence of materials and workmanship, and part pride of ownership. If she meant to say that she wouldn't spend that much on a knife, I understand: it's not a valuable item to her. Of course not, or she would have had one, and wouldn't have had to borrow his: all the more reason to treat his property with respect -- his property.

Exactly. It is a form of ignorance and a form of arrogance. But it's also a warning. If they don't respect knives enough to provide themselves with one, how would we expect them to value ours?

About the second or third time I met my Step Father at my sisters wedding, he already knows I'm all about knives and asks to see what I "brought to the wedding". It was my limited edition BM Mini-Skirmish($280) which I baby more than my customs(looks pretty damn good) and the very first thing he does is pinch the blade and snap the mother f'ing bejesus out of it to show me he "knows" how to open a knife! Yet it got exponentially better when he whipped it with a full body motion towards Satan! Luckily there were no open portals nearby and it safely lodged in the solid walnut floor! Since then the blade is off center and the finish near the tip is silver instead of black.

Teach me a Lesson? ..........NOPE, and know not to let anybody use my knives, unless its life or death already.
Also my Step Father is very well off and would if I asked have replaced the knife.

Take what's left of your knife, slash the bottom out of her Coach purse, and offer here a couple bucks to replace it, telling her if she paid more than that for a purse that she got ripped off. :jerkit:

I like the way you think, mack!

Wholesale is $75 so you didn't do too bad.

I just wonder why it broke just picking a lock? I picked a few locks, door latches with my Buck 110 and it was fine.

Pffft.....show me your supplier and I'll jump ship.

You know whats funny about all of these posts and the a$$holes who mistreat all of these knives. They sit and talk shit about people who have a knife, complain and say you wasted your money when you tell them how much it cost, look at you like your a creep or weirdo for carrying one, and then, THEY ARE THE FIRST ONES TO ASK YOU TO USE YOUR KNIFE WHEN THEY NEED SOMETHING CUT. Or in this case, pryed, screwed, hammered, etc. :barf: WHAT A JOKE! I guess I am just going to use all these ignorant peoples prized items to either wipe my ass, shoot in place of a clay pigeon, or start my fire camping when i need too. :D

EXACTLY!!! Makes me want to say WTF?! Everytime this happens. My day job is working in a small cubicle, and when I started there (having always been outdoors for work or leisure) there was (still is) a girl there who 'til this day nags about why I would have a knife and a multi tool with me........duh I don't know, maybe because the two or three items I carry with me get used more than once eveyday  I them looked at her like she was crazy for spending evey waking moment after work on WoW (world of warcraft), she looked puzzled and said because she likes to

I very much dislike having to not only explain why I carry knives/tools, but then the cost when asked back to back. Its like defending why I am the way I am. I don't judge those who waste money on senseless junk, at least my EDC may save their sorry butt someday and heaven forbid, my own :D

Simply comes down to being different. People inherently pick up on things that are different and some are quick to judge/criticize. Having a different pair of shoes for every possible clothing setup is perfectly fine, but carrying and collecting something that is very useful....absurd!

Most people seem hopeless to me, though putting a knife in somebody's hand and teaching them to use it can be a big help.

That's the nature of people. To draw a parallel: I am a prepper. I have a bunch of water, non perishable food, guns, ammo, toilet paper, medicine, water filter, you name it. People are always saying it's crazy, don't need it, paranoid, etc etc etc....then they mention that if the crap hits the fan they'll turn to you. Uh, yeah, good luck with that.

Ya I should do that to her shit. I'm not gonna make a huge deal out of it tho, because it was a very small chip at the tip. It just took me a few hours to reprofile it. I guess the tip broke off a lil bit cuz millies have a thin/acute edge. She must have jamed it in the door and turned sideways against the bolt pretty hard to break it off. But anyway, its still the principle of the fact. You dont just do that to someone's stuff and not even care. Especially to people like us that collect knives as a hobby.

Yeah, i understand everyone is different, and everyone puts different value on different things, BUT still, some people need to pull their heads out of their asses when it comes to knives. I am sorry but this topic does piss me off!!! I wish i could get some people to understand the quality of some of these knives that people have been dissed on. I mean i have some buddies who golf and would think nothing of it to blow $350 on a new driver, but if a knife costs that much.....you are an idiot to have spent that much?...Anyways there is a flip side to this...of 4 of my good friends who about 2 years ago gave me loads of shit for my knives...now 2 of them carry knives(buck 110, and ???) and the other two come to me for questions about knives or how to sharpen them...So i guess they are learning because of me, although i still would not let them use my umnum...not knife nuts just yet!!!

If she broke bits of your knife off in the door, hopefully for next time she won't be able to insert a key properly because of the vengeful bits of blade left behind in the lock.:p
