Ever have a knife you just tried and tried to love, but just never took?

CRK Umnumzaan. Top notch fit and finish ruined by sub-par ergonomics and the most awkward opening action of any knife I've ever handled.

Picked up a Svord Peasant knife on a whim. Thought I would enjoy the novelty of a friction, but I purchased one of the aluminum handle versions. A little to thin for my tastes, and also the tip was essentially nonpresent. I wouldn't mind trying out the wood handle versions; should've got one of those in the first place.

I have been very blessed that I have liked pretty much every knife I have owned. Not that I haven't traded or sold them within a few days, but I just found other knives I like or wanted to try more. One knife in particular, was the umnumzaan, I own a lot of ti framelocks, but the one I had was uncommonly hard to disengage. The seb on the other hand, is easy as pie :)

The ergos are fine with me, but it's definitely the hardest knife I own to open quickly one handed. Which is a pity, because it's also the most expensive.

bm griptilian but at last i gifted it to my friend. as for now... i cant like yet cant throw away my spyderco endura.

Caly3 ZDP

I don't know why....I wanted that knife for ages...and when I had it. It just wouldn't grow on me. I just didn't like it enough to keep it.

My spyderco Sage 1, I tried to love it twice, bought my first one then sold it. Eventually ended up trading another knife for a sage 1 again, but just couldn't get to liking it. I carried it for a week, but it just felt to wide in my pocket. Loved the ergos, just a little to wide with the thumb ramp in the pocket.

SOG TF1 half serrated, gave it to my daughter, loved the deep carry pocket clip though, wish more makers would do that.

a $365 custom bushcraft knife.. had it one day before advertising it for sale! hand made by a maker who wanted a gun of mine so we traded, but I just didn't like it.

My most expensive knife to purchase was my CRK 'StarTac' Umnumzaan - and I love it. Following close behind was my sole purchase at BLADE 2012 - a LionSteel SR-1 - which I still can't warm up to.

My biggest 'Ho hum!' was a MicroTech Ultratech. WTH was I thinking? Neat - but totally useless - an OTF auto - I can own it - play with it - but not carry it! Big expensive mistake. I have several Benchmade auto's - and some assisted - all keepers, even if I don't carry them, either. One needs to think through their knife purchases.

Right up there with the M-T, as far as useless to me is concerned, is my sweet wife's Christmas gift to me from a few years back... a Benchmade 171 BladeSport 'Chopper'. One huge hunk of CPM M4... but what to do with it? I don't need to sever the Titanic's dock line with one fell swoop... or compete. "Whatz that?" "Why, that is my new bushcraft neck knife - I'm waiting for a new neck sheath for it!" Yeah, and some chain to secure it around the Brahma bull's neck who'll carry it!

Finally - an unreal custom knife made for me by Mel Pardue himself. My gosh, it is unreal... Damascus bolster & blade; mammoth ivory scales; Au & Ti - unreal filework... a work of art. But... I toss every knife, including that 'zaan, in my pocket for EDC duties. I just feel I can't do anything but display this knife - and, honestly, that I am not 'worthy' of such perfection. Odd duck, aint I?

Lastly, we are all different. But, seriously, there are folks who don't like Buck 110's, ZT-0560/1's, and CRK Sebbies? Gads, whatz dis woild coming to??

I have a gorgeous mini fox river in dessert ironwood. It is just a touch too big for edc the way i like to carry so my mini Canadian always wins out. It is the nicest knife I own and the least used. Time to sell, maybe, but I still like looking at it.

There are knives that I knew immediately were NOT for me, and then there have been the knives that I wanted to like....but.....

The "but" knives...Spyderco Gayle Bradly, ZT 055X, ZT056X, BM 940, BM 950, BM 710, ParaMil's, Mil's (except for the Ti ones)....all gone.

Then there are of course the knives that I never thought I'd like as much as I do, the newest and cheapest one of the bunch is the Ontario Rat 1. If you have one, you know what I mean. It actually replaced my weekend beater Sebenza for around-the-house duties. Weird, but fun.

I have a couple of reasons to not like the Buck 110-it's a nail nick, and no pocket clip. For a carry knife that suits my needs, I need something that fits my pocket, and a knife with a pocket clip is better than one that just sits loose inside it, especially one that weighs over 7 ounces. See, my work doesn't want us carrying knives at all(company policy), but management looks the other way in regards to pocket knives(hell, I could carry a Voyager XL and the boss is fine, as long as it's carried in the pocket)...not so much when it comes to wearing a sheath on my belt. So I can clip something like a Kershaw or Spyderco to my pocket and cover my needs, and with less weight to boot. Second, I do not like nail nick openers, as I frequently need to open my knife 1 handed. Again, easy with a Spyderco or Kershaw, not so much with the Buck. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice looking knife and I certainly am fine with owning one, but as for something I will actually USE...not so much.

Another Sebenza 21. The attention to detail in the finish makes me examine and hold it over and over, but I just can't one-hand deploy the damn thing!

BM Griptillion, handle feels great but doesn't carry well, don't like the part serrated blade, can't stand the fact that the black blade and clip will become scratched up, paid a bit too much for it...... and so forth.

my buck bantum, i bought it on sale at canadian tire for $20 in a pack with the mini bantum. the mini went on my keys right away and i carried the other for a few weeks but i kept switching back to other knives during those few weeks until eventually i stopped carrying it. i don't know what it was, the blade was razor sharp out of the box and it feels pretty good in the hand. i think it might be how light it is, i'm used to carrying all metal knives that you can know are there. i still carry it from time to time but mostly just on weekends when i'm doing not much of anything like going to a friends house or going out for dinner because it's a little friendlier around the sheeple
