Everyone's latest acquisitions!

I was in Colorado for the week of Thanksgiving, and I drove down to Golden to visit the spyderco factory. I really liked the Sliverax, and bought one on sale at KC for way less than at the factory. Now, I've been pretty much been buying custom knives in the last year, and the two production are coated. While the action and ergonomics on the Sliverax are great, the handle material left me wanting compared to other CF.

Not sure if I'll keep it, I also dislike the lanyard hole interfering with the location of the deep carry clip. I may give it to a friend.

I've decided to keep the Sliverax. It's very fun, and is ergonomic. Maybe I could get someone to make me scales for it, not g-10 or G-10 laminate. I hate the feel of both, just me. I have texture issues.

I know part of me is wanting a new knife since a custom maker is not returning my emails after I made a down payment 7 months ago. I was told it would be ready November to December...

So maybe that's driving me. I wish the Sliverax had purple linen micarta scales and CPM-M4.

Just a couple days ago I said how I was finished buying knives...well...

I was on Buck's website and see they have the 110 with nickel silver and ebony in a drop point blade. I was going to get the s30V steel but they were out of stock and I've had years of good experience with their 420, plus, it was only about $73 on sale. They're getting their ebony from Taylor guitars so that's sort of cool even though I've been a Martin guy.

Perhaps my favorite pocket knife of all time is their 501 Squire (of which I have three) and a few years back, I picked up a Duke 500 so getting a 110 with nickel and a drop point blade seemed like a good idea. I've got a couple traditional 110s so this one is different enough I wanted it. It'll be a week or so before I get it but here's a photo from their site:

Knife arrived today. Overall, it's decent but the blade is slightly off center and the bolsters have some fine scuffing (which could polish out). The scales are a tad lighter than I expected but wood is wood and they still look nice. Blade itself is lovely and very sharp. Overall, I give it 80/100. Cheap enough to not go through the hassle of sending it back for a different one. These are not expensive knives and we all know that Buck is a great knife but not always finished to a level we might hope for. Would I buy it again? Yes.

The sales over the last week or so were definitely worth setting aside money for. I thought I was done, after buying a couple of knives I wanted and then one retailer had a big Spyderco sale. I was planning on getting a Endura 4 before the end of the year, but seeing the Native Chief $75 off was apparently too hard to resist. The Spyderco Native Chief is a father/son collaboration between Sal and Eric Glesser (both their maker marks seen on the blade below), which should in and of itself be enough of a reason to buy it. It's got a 4.08" blade made from CPM S30V, pivots on washers, with G10 handle scales, and it feels good in the hand. It's got a lockback and the Spideyhole is smaller than on most models, so it's not going to be a fidget friendly knife, but it is going to be great for getting slicey work done. This could easily become my favourite Spyderco knife, even after that new knife shine wears off.

Then the older Zero Tolerance models went on sale, in a way that made me think the seller was moving some discontinued stock, with the one I pounced on $175 off. The Zero Tolerance Sinkovich 0462 is of course designed by Dmitry Sinkevich. I've wanted one of his knives for a while now, but they're not cheap and I wanted the larger version of this knife. The 3.75" trailing blade is made of CPM 20CV, the pivot runs on ball bearings, and the handle has one side titanium and the other woven carbon fiber. The ergonomics are exceptional and owing to its handle materials one of the lightest big folders I own.
