Shaymanx I have a bug for handguns.I really love the single actions.I have 2 Ruger single six's in 22/22 magnum and 2 Ruger Super blackhawks in 44 mag. Then I have Glocks,Springfields and Colts along with my Ruger Super redhawk 454 to round things out.I love big bore handguns. I have killed a whitetail at 78 yards with my 44 mag and open sights. I am like you I hunt for meat not antlers. I also would never put a scope on a handgun just personal preference. When I was a Master firearms trainer I got to shoot a lot and we had Glock 22's 40 calibers. I got pretty good at shooting them at 75 yards.I love to bow hunt though that is my true passion.I have killed probably close to 150 whitetails since I started hunting in 1979. Where I use to live you could buy doe tags right over the counter. was nothing to have 6 or 8 deer hanging in our garage during the season.I prefer to eat meat that I kill. Then you know there are no hormone injections in them!

I went with a S&W .460 in a Magnum Research BFR and a Leupold VXII scope as my deer pistol. Zero'd at 250, and hits light a freightliner! Got some custom leather for full enclosure and convertible to quick draw, well as quick as you can with a 10# pistol that's as long as your arm. I found the ballistics of the .460 to be about ideal for deer. Although my uncle got one two or three years ago with his Ruger Blackhawk in .357! He got into the Ruger catalog with the pic and won a contest for $500 from Ruger with that kill.

Wow! Nice bunch of handguns. My brother has a Single Six.

The leading contender for my deer setup is a 44 mag. How do you like the Super Blackhawks? I like the idea of no scope. At the distance I'm likely to use it, a scope wouldn't be a must.

150 whitetails is a bunch! I'm nowhere near that number. I agree with eating the meat. If I won't eat it, I won't shoot it.

I just noticed you are in the UP. I'm in MN. Where I hunt in northern MN, we usually can buy an extra doe tag, but we never see all that many deer. I also don't usually get a whole week off to go, so I'm trying to do what I can in 3 or 4 days. I also hunted in WI many years ago and again the last couple of years and have had good luck there.

Where do you hunt caribou?

Bow hunting is another one of those things that sounds like great fun, but I have never made the time to dedicate to jumping in and getting good at it.

250?? Yikes, I wouldn't think that was possible! What kind of trajectory does that thing have at 50, 100, 150, 200?

357 is my 2nd choice for my deer setup. I have found that I can't grip most of the larger caliber handguns very well. It definitely limits my choices.

I love my Super Blackhawks. My second one I got from a friend going through a divorce. He had not shot 20 rounds through it. I helped him a lot and did some work for him.He gave me the Super Blackhawk and a Remington Wingmaster 870 20 gauge for $100 plus 4 ammo cans full of ammo.He was in bad health and I completely moved him and his stuff into storage plus set up his apartment.I tried giving him more money for them and he absolutely refused to take any more money.I live in the eastern U.P. by the Tahquamenon Falls. We moved up here from lower Michigan 16 years ago.Bow hunting takes a lot of dedication to practicing and I limit my shots to 40 yards even though we practice out to 70 yards. The Caribou we hunted with Mirage outfitters. Talk about the middle of no where.lol. If you got lost they would never find the bones.

The .460 is the fastest handgun cartridge around. 2330 fps and ~2400ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle. It shoots flat as can be and I treat it like a light load .30-06 with a 220 grain bullet. It is the same diameter as the 45 colt and .454 casull.

Left to right, 45 colt, 454 casull, .460 magnum

oh wait, thats backwards. I love person's and I'm a people politic. yeah that's it..

It's funny, we all try to get along until "serious" matters are discussed and then the real "us" pokes it's head out and BAM... I don't what happens, but it starts with BAM! Then again this is a knife forum and most knife nuts are well.. I love knives- but that doesn't MEAN ANYTHING BESIDES I LOVE KNIVES.. I'm only here to check out knives, buy/sell knives and appreciate some makes that I can relate too.. But this forum (not daniel's, but BF in general) has way too much "stuff" beyond that that is turning me off big time. I'll be checking out usual suspects as my only knife hang out soon.. I'd rather stay here but jesus f I'm over how this site is run and by what type of people..

had to get that off my chest :) SMOKES!

It's funny you put that video in. That's exactly the scene I was thinking of when I saw all the choppers, especially the one for BigCountry! :)

I try to just ignore that politics stuff too. I often wonder if the person posting it really believes it or if they are just baiting others...

yeah she gave him the f' me eyes for sho'....

btw, if you get Deschutes Brewery where you live, try the Hop Henge IPA... it be damn tasty, dunno why I've passed over it for so long.. oh and make sure to drink a few so the 8.9% alc/vol seeps into the brain a bit :)

Deschutes makes great beer, I'll look for that one. I over IPA'd last year but am back into the hops! 100 IBU's or bust!

100+ IBU's for sure! I also love a hop forward brew. Rogue brewery is another good one.

I am huge fan of their beer, Arrogant Bastard is probably my favorite easy to find beer. I made a few clone batches of it. Old Dirty Bastard, that was my favorite version, I made it about 11% abv and aged it on lightly toasted American Oak.

Mmmmmmm. Beeeeeeeer!

You all are sturdier souls than I am if you can drink that 11% abv stuff and live to tell about it. Good choices for the breweries you guys mentioned.

We have a great local brewery here called Surly. They make some fantastic brews. My personal favorite is Furious. Nothing outside of MN yet that I know of.

Morning guys. Got an appointment at DMV this morning, which means i should only have to wait for maybe 2 hours instead of 4 hours for a walk in. The one office in town is just ridiculous, a line out the door and down the side of the building every day.
