Tantos - I need to sharpen them, they are super close as well

Titanium and more - well on the way! I have a lot in store for you guys.

Man, you have a lot of energy!

Pics? Did you say pics?

lol and energy drinks! Actually I try to stay away from them but am having a red bull right now.

Yes hopefully photos soon! I just took a few that were all bad... cleaning camera lens and back on in a minute! I usually take a million photos, I like the photography aspect of knifemaking.

Blades as art, with practical use, right on!

Exactly! That's my take on knifemaking.

I posted some photos but they aren't much, I am having problems uploading them. I will have some up tomorrow, the choppers are done! Sheaths fitted and looking great!

OK, 13 hour day, 10:15pm here. I'm going to make dinner! :D

I'm thinking some form of fried meat, maybe chicken fried steak.

hey everyone, today before work I cord wraped my kiridashi and made a temp sheath from a scrap piece of kydex so I could throw it in my pocket with out worry. the wrap came out pretty good for my first time I think . I have been having a blast cutting stuff at work with it! I also totally finished the mod on my junk yard dog . Does anyone know where I could get one of the frame lock junkyard dogs with IKBS? Daniel is it cool if I post a pic of my kiridashi and JYD here?have a good night y'all

Morning men! Have a great Friday men!Daniel thanks for the pics I know when you post the rest it will be well worth the wait!Your attention to detail is second to none!

Morning men. Having the pest control guys come spray the house today, been having a bad problem with spiders, found a black widow in my sons room last week. Been in this house three years now, I guess its time. I have to put my rabbits in the garage, and take my dog to my parents house.

Anyways, yesterday turned out to be a good day, first off I was given a black walnut burl about the size of a basketball that has been sitting in a barn for nearly 20 years, and then I finally found someone who will do some gunsmith work for me on my 1917 I'm building. I've been looking for nearly two years to find someone to do this work and a retired local smith finally offered because he knows the predicament I'm in with this gun. Basically this one step has been holding up this project for quite some time! Funny thing is, in a round about way, there is a connection with this smith, and the infamous Charlie Mike on here...

Y'all have a good Friday!

Peace

Cool! We want pics! :D No idea on that knife but IKBS is cool, I'm considering using bearings on my frame locks when I make them.

Sounds cool besides the spiders! We have an insane amount of moths here, lol! My cat goes moth hunting at night, it is too funny. He brought me a bird sized one the other day! That and caulking, he pulls it off the side of the house and thinks it is a snake or something. :D

Huge walnut burl! Nice! Walnut is nice to work with from the little I have used. Awesome looking too...

Nice on the 1917 as well, I'd like to see it. The Smith knows CM, cool!

Hey everyone. Damn, I'm glad it's friday. Even though I'm not working as much overtime as I was, I'm still feeling a little burned out. TGIF!!!

Here's a little sneak peek at that burl I got...

Now I have to figure out the best way to cut this thing up for quality yield, not quantity yield.

wow Xander that is quite a nice piece of burl. What all are you wanting to use it for on your 1917 project? That will be nice to see when you get it all finished! I wish I had half the talent you men have. Now that I am retired I am going to look for a Swedish 6.5 and put a composite stock on it and have the barrel glass bedded.A friend of mine did one and that is one accurate rifle! seems like Dunhams gets them in for pretty cheap.Going to take someone with me to help get the best barrel and action. I will be putting a Timminey trigger in it.

The 1917 and the burl are two seperate projects. The 1917 is in AA grade quilted maple with rosewood tip and cap. The stock is still 97% inletted and rough shaped on the outside. It will be glass bedded in the action and 1" of the barrel. I like to free float my barrels and leave the option of a shim pad open if it needs it.

6.5 Swede is an awesome round and underutilized in my opinion. You going to get a '98 mauser to build? If your looking to trick it out just be sure you get a large ring mauser action. After I finish my 1917 I'm going to do a '98 mauser in .257 roberts Ackley Improved. I love that round.

A little tip with composite stocks, you can save a little money if you can stiffen the forearm yourself. Mill out under the barrel, put some steel rods in there and fill with acraglass epoxy. Many of the less xpensive stocks are flexy up front and will touch the barrel causing problems with accuracy. Depending on the barrel you go with, full length bedding might not be the best option for absoute accuracy. Bed the action, recoil lug and maybe up to the barrel shoulder is my starting point, I then adjust from there. The best stocks are McMillan, but if you want stiffness don't overlook the wood laminated stocks, they are as solid as composite most of the time, and can be cheaper.

I love rifle projects, and I may use this burl on my next one, or some pistol grips for my target air pistol. You might like my little .22 I did last year, I've had it for 20 years and it still shoots sub MOA out to 80 yards and holds just about 1 MOA at 100 yards. .22 ballistics are a funny thing, but that can easy be a whole 'nother page of topics!

Xander the 98 mauser is exactly what I am going to look for. Thanks for the tips. This will be my first rifle build project.I will make sure to stiffen up the forearm.I do not want it flexing and hitting the barrel and ruining the accuracy!!! What type of 22 do you have? For 22's I have 2 a Marlin bolt action and a Ruger 10/22 with a laminate stock and stainless. It is a shooter.I have never shot it past 75 yards but now you have me wanting to take it out and see what it will do at 100 yards. When ever I am out riding around in the fall I keep my Ruger single six loaded with 22 magnum CCI hollow points.I have shot a ton of partridge with that gun. Nothing over a 15-18 yard shot though.I see them and get out of the Jeep and go for head shots while they are on the ground. Some people would say you should let them fly but I hunt for food.any legal method of taking game I am all for.
