Hey Guys good early afternoon here, lunch break. I have a bunch of work to post and it's raining... will get pics indoors if possible! I need to make some sheaths and I'll have a few orders out to you guys, Thanks for being so patient!

I'm due for my new drill press today, it is coming in according to the tracking. :D :D :D I still have my little one but anything more than 1/4" has been tough, it's going to be nice!

I also got in about 30 new belts in, 12 square feet of kydex, Ti tube, all kinds of good stuff.

I'm participating in the Christmas Knifemakers KITH (Knife in the hat), I won't start on it for a while but here are my plans. I'm going for an art knife, I started off grinding stone and decided to do another one for fun.

I am seriously considering making a few more of this design but with a different grind, do you guys like the profile?

I like that shape. Looks very clean and elegant. The double chisel is going to make it perform well (if the future owner has the inclination to use it). That black jade is going to be killer. Are you going to make a sheath/scabbard along the same design theme?

I am in total agreement with Gooeytek on this one.Problem is someone will probably have it for show or in a safe instead of using it like it was designed for. More orders coming up is the word that got me excited! I can not wait to get my larger.36.It will get lots of wilderness time on my hip!

:thumbup:I REALLY like it!:D What else can I say that hasn't already been said?!?

I just got an idea about the KITH.

I'll take it. How's that? no? dang.

On a side note, I think you need to make your own mokume stock out of micarta. Call it DF Mokarta. Dancarta? Fairkume?

Thanks, I will either go for a leather sheath or a nice bag. I have to learn leatherwork first, I have tried but am no good at it yet. :D

Nice! I try to make about half orders and half for public sale but here soon I may mostly do orders to catch up then switch to a big production run or two.

Daniel,

Your KITH design looks fantastic!!
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words.

LOL, Mokume micarta would be sweet! I really like the idea. I have seen some really cool micarta that had that kind of look and small scraps of cloth are the key I think, once I get my indoor shop setup I will be making a lot of composites and that is one I want to make. I'm addicted to Micarta. :D

I do have an idea though... I am considering doing a big run of that style and I may make one more like the kith knife. Maybe 1 like that, 2 in ironwood or some kind of burl wood, 5 in carbon fiber, 15 in G10 and a bunch in different cord wraps. Most chisel and a few double just for kicks, maybe a few with a grind like the KITH knife.

Maybe the Missus is better at the leatherwork? perhaps some inlays of the handle material can be used to embellish the sheath to create some type of connection between it and the knife, that way, if you don't feel too confident about the leatherwork it'll still have some exclusivity between both pieces. Or, you can make a minimal kydex/concealex sheath and just wrap it in a nicely tanned piece of leather. The kydex will keep it secure, and the leather will soften the look, matching the showpiece-ness of the knife. You can probably just glue/epoxy the leather on the kydex, taco-style. The inlays can be set that way too.

Man oh man oh man, all this talk about double chisel grinds, stone handles, leather work, and
knives coming up for sale, I think I'll have to have a beer and a cigar to settle my nerves.:nevreness:

Well I finished phase I on the boat I have been working on. Got 7 coats of oil, hand rubbed, on all the teak. Scrubbed clean inside and out, put it on th trailer and covered it up for winter storage. Phase II begins with the nest dry spell in a week or two, with a full strip, polish and wax. Maybe new graphics as well. This owner has been good to me, letting me work aty pace and bill him when done.

Putting a sailboat on a trailer is always a nerve wracking task, this boat weighs 4400lbs and we don't have a ramp long enough or a ramp capable trailer. My club has two cranes on site for lifting boats, and even though I have done it thousands of times for many boats, I still get nervous.

Now I should have some time to get into the shop and make sharp pieces of steel for a bit.

I hear ya BigCountry!! My son just started his freshman year at Ohio State University and family weekend is coming up soon. My son is absolutely loving his classes and clubs he's joined (Chess Club, Medieval Weapons Fighting Club, Chemistry Club, etc.).........why do I have a nightmarish feeling that my wallet will be empty from now on.....:D

Wow Xander that would be scary. I have seen a few boats get hauled out and it is serious! My friend's boat broke in two on the sling and they cold molded it back together!

Cool ideas on the sheath Gooeytek. My wife might be getting into leatherwork.

BigCountry I hope you enjoy it!

Lol they want so much money! I played rugby in college and since it isn't a NCAA sport we didn't get funding, talk about a crazy time. We slept in cars or the whole team would sleep at someones house, lol maybe 10 to a hotel room, we did anything to go play. We were lucky enough to be sponsered by a bar though, free beer after the games with the opposing team. :D

WTF? Where were clubs like this when I was in college? Any excuse to LARP! lol.

Riverwarrior I hear ya.This is my second one through college. She is in her freshman year.My son cost so much money I could hardly buy anything for me or momma for 4 years. That is why I got the money together and ordered from Dan right away. Seems like it is the second semester where they think you have a money tree planted since they left.Good luck to ya brother. Tell him there is phenomenal deer hunting around Columbus.A friend and I went down that way 2 years ago and both arrowed some nice bucks.
