Never mind... I just found a picture of the deck dry.... I forgot that it had been raining for some time when those two pictures where taken.

Here's one way the deck gets wet.... I had to cut the video short, the waves were getting bigger and I needed more than one hand to hold on....

Yep that is teak. Heavily oxidised, but it is teak. Teak burl is usually white teak which is much lighter than marine grade teak. It has figure like redwood burl and is super rare.

This is what freshly finnished teak looks like. Some of you may remember me redoing all the teak on this boat last year. I think I still have cramps from all that hand sanding...

Even plain-jane teak like this I think could look good on a knife.

Morning men.Big snow storm coming in today. They will not be able to fix my daughters Jeep until Tuesday. So we will have to take it to her at school on Tuesday.

Morning men.Daniel I was not going to say anything about the dry wall.I learned first hand how hard it is. Trying to do a ceiling with out a dry wall jack was dumb.Thought because I was big and strong and wanted to save money.lol Got one sheet hung and went and rented the dry wall jack.

It is really tough! I made a jig to do the ceiling but it has been awful, I had one piece pretty much take me out. I had another idea yesterday night and was able to get a piece up without as much struggle but I only have 3 pieces on the ceiling so far. Lol I just read about the jack yesterday! I may have help soon. The good news is I have 23 pieces up so far and 95% of the walls are done.

On a lighter note, Barracuda wasn't working last night, so I got to surf Blade Forums at work in my free time.
Man the night went by a lot quicker.

Excellent!!! :D

Big, that isn't a freak accident. Wheel studs don't just shear like that. The same thing happened to my dad on his work truck years ago. The company investigated it and found that the place that did the tires were using air wrenches to put the wheels back on but way over torqued them. They found several other trucks with cracked studs after that. Glad she was smart enough to call and not just drive home.

Funny story, my ex drove around for 4 months with a broken steering rack in her acura before she ever said anything. She would be in the middle of a turn and it would just lock up, so she would just would grab the wheel and practicaly hang on it to get it to turn! It was pretty dangerous! That led to another fight and well, let's just say the best thing is that she is now my ex!

Daniel, I just missed out by minutes on some teak burl on ebay! I saw it was about to close and tried to log in on my phone (at work) and it wouldn't sign in fast enough. :( teak burl is super rare and it went for a reasonble price. I am still going to keep an eye out for some and send you over sized of what you are going to need. Maybe some curly teak if it is nice. I will let you know when I sen you some.

Teak burl is some nice material! I do really like the plain stuff though, I need to remember but I saw some scales somewhere for a reasonable deal.

I hear you on the lug nuts, I had a car with Aluminum wheels and once caught a local shop using the air gun on them when I just told them not to, they screwed them all up and tried to tell me they were already like that.

That teak would look great on a knife!

Good luck with everything!

Morning all, Daniel you're up early. You must be chomping at the bit to get the dry wall finished, ha, ha.
About to get ready to go to work myself. Back on 12 hr days, oh well extra money always comes in handy.

You know it! Ready to go!!! :D

Actually I'm just really ready to get back to knife making but you knew that!

Morning men. The knife making makes me excited!!! Waiting for a new blade is always hard. More snow on the way up here. Tons of snow mobilers flying by all day and night.I am ready for spring but we have at least 6 more weeks more like 8 weeks left!

Good morning. I can't wait to get going!!! I have a few designs I want to try and a whole notebook full of orders to get on.

It's funny we have tons of snow on the roads and no snowmobilers around, if I had one I'd be cruising around. Just north they have a huge maintained system and you can go from town to town that way. I think I have enough snow plowed now for a decent ski jump, I'll have to get one going eventually!

Evening gents. Spent the last two days cleaning up the yard, rebuilding a gate that decided to self destruct, put another work bench in my shop, broke and then fixed my flexarm bench light, cleaned the house, did all my chores and got another knife project started. I am excited about this knife, my first time working with 1095 and lots of other firsts involved as well. I am going to try and sneak into the shop for an hour or two tomorrow morning before work. Maybe I'll get a sneak peek pic or two up tomorrow.

Morning men. Going to be off to Marquette as soon as my daughters Jeep is done. We have to bring her room mate and best friends parents explorer back. Makes it easier than taking 2 vehicles up there. Daniel good luck with finishing your shop. You are going to love it,

Ok, in the shop now. Got the profile and blade finalised with 60grit. Now to move onto 120 and up from there. Bolsters will be cut and roughed in at 120 as well. I will solder them as well as peen with the pivot. The liners are a bit thicker than I wanted, but I only had this or too thin. Still trying to decide what I want the scales to be, I have a few options with material I have on hand.

The blade and spring are cut from an Old Hickory knife I picked up for $0.50 the other day. The liners are from a solid brass motorcycle lisence plate frame. I am thinking of using stag for the scales or maybe snakewood. What do you guys think?

-Xander

P.S. sorry Daniel for posting up my knife on your forum, but since I don't sell my knives I figured its not an issue. Plus my knives really make yours look good! Every knife you turn out is better than the last!

Haha I should of known you would like it! You change your first name to Wharncliff yet?!

Thanx man!

Nice work!

The steel on those Old Hickory knives is great stuff, my Dad used one to cut a few hundred pounds of meat per week with an Old Hickory... after a while they would look like a filet knife. Cool to recycle, lots of character that way.

I appreciate you posting it here! No worries here, I have a different attitude about stuff like that. I used to do rock/gem/jewelry shows for a living and the other vendors would moan when new vendors came in but I never thought about it like that. We all have to stick together!

I'm on lunch break then I have some drywall to do... only 2 pieces to do and the walls will be compete. After that I'm installing baseboards/trim and sanding the floor, my Epoxy is going to be in tomorrow and I want to be ready to do the floor. Then I'll let it cure and make some knives! After that I still have more drywall and trim then painting but I'm getting there!

Morning guys. Got an early day today, so no shop time this morning. Doubt I will get out there after work either. But the next couple days I should be able to sneak out for a few hours in he morning before work again. I just can't wait to finish that slip joint!

-Xander

Good morning guys...

I'm trimming the shop floor today and sanding it, my epoxy should be in tonight and I want to be ready to pour it.
