Ewwww, no wonder Daniel won't ever show his face in a photo :barf: :p

Hmm, its morning for sure, but don't know yet if its a good one.

________ Morning troop. Nah, too mad lib.

Hi, y'all. Mmm, nope. Too Larry the Cable Guy.

Hello! Ugh, too Seinfeld.

Crap, I need coffee.

Crap, so much for my day off. Gotta go to work now.

I just had got the shop set up for the day, I was going to heat treat some stuff too.

Oh well, its overtime.

-Xander

...at least it's overtime! Sorry to hear that though, hopefully you get to heat treat soon.

Uggghhh Morning, how about that! :D lol I am still sick here but getting some work done anyways. I am too excited about the new gear.

Xander,That sucks.Have you not learned not to answer the phone on your day off?:D
Daniel, sick or not I would be playing with that mill too.
Have a good one y'all.

Well, I am off now, sitting at a bar waiting for lunch.

Kevin, you forget, I'm in management I have to answer my phone. Seems like shit rolls uphill in retail.

Well, the wife and kid are home from work and school, so until its nap time I can't get any time in the shop. I may still be able to HT atleast one project today, but I would have to get it done and in the temper cycle before Zyler wakes up. I have lots to do, and so little time. Daniel, I envy you, your work is your play!

Some news, I was asked by my old skipper to come back and set up the boat for a new season of racing. He offered to bring me back onto the payroll, I basically fall back in right where I left off. I have to think about it, but it is nice to know I can still step back onto the race course at the same level I left off. It would be puttin the old crew back together, we have won 7 out of the last 11 years.

We'll see how it goes.

Its Friday! WooHoo!

Tried a small quarter mokume stack yesterday for the first time, I think I singed my eyebrows trying to watch the stack in the forge. Got a decent weld, but one small shunt on one side. I may be able to work around that, but this is just a test run so no big loss.

I need to build a bigger jig to hold the stack for welding up larger stacks. I may try some other materials I have around, too. A shop apron is needed, the sparks flying from that first strike are no fun going down your shirt!

Sounds cool! I tried some mokume that way and had the same luck, I am going to build a small press when I can locate the materials for cheap.

Good stuff getting the team back together! I wish you good luck! Sounds awesome...

Still sick here, I need to get to a warmer place, lol. I was working on the truck in 4 below and think that didn't help. I'm getting some rest now and will probably go work on the shop later. The horizontal KMG is scheduled for today!

I got my pen up and running!

Definitely worth every penny of the $17 I spent on it (including shipping).

Please excuse the messy handwriting... I'm still working on it.

Looking good Andrew! I have a few with no caps that I still use occasionally. I have a hard time with writting consistantly with flex, italic works much better for me. I spent a year studying Palmer method writing and it made such a dramatic improvement in my hand. Check out IAMPETH,com for som great info if you haven't already. I used Palmermethod.com for my lessons.

Well, I guess that word got out that I may be racing again this year. I received another offer tonight, better money, but its an up and comer in the fleet with one season title under their belt. I have raced with them in the past, and the boat is capable. My problem is they offered me more money but I have 8 years loyalty with my old skipper. I have not given anyone an answer one way or another yet. I don't know what to do. Andrew, Daniel, you guys both know this world of sailing, what are your thoughts? Anyone else?

Morning!

Its Saturday, its going to be 61* today and I'm going to the flea market. Don't know what I'm looking for yet, but I am pretty sure I will find something that catches my eye.

You just made me very self conscious of how bad my hand writing is....lol

OK that is awesome! Nice pen, I like it! Cool script style...

Xander go with the people you like the best. I think that is important with any type of crew.

I figure the best football team over the season would always beat an all pro team that just got put together...

How much money difference... :D (just kidding but pay is always important)

Man my hand writing is bad too, my teachers told me I should be a doctor. :)

Xander,loyalty over money.
AWC,cool pen. I tried calligraphy once but only once ......it was BAAAD:D
Ice cream for breakfast again today mmmmmmmmmm!

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Xander, I've never been paid to sail (except in beer, and sandwiches on long distance races (6-8 hours max)) so my opinion shouldn't be worth much, but I would rather sail with the people I can work with. If you know the one crew will works well together (and with you) then that must be worth something. I might be hard to put a price tag on how much that is worth, but there you go.

If you want to get the best deal out of this you need to decide what each party wants (you, new skip and the old skip). For example, you might want money over friendship, the new guy wants skill, and the old skip wants skill with friendship.

before you accept one or the other offer though you should go to your old skipper and tell him that this new skipper has offered you x amount. See what he says, and then base your decision on that. You could go back and forth between each guy and get the best deal, but you might just end up pissing them off.

Negotiation, it is far too complex for us mere mortal eh?

Good stuff here...

That mug is too funny by the way.

I just got in from working on the KMG horizontal grinder, holy crap was it gnarly to install! I will wire the motor tomorrow. I am really happy with it, it is built like a tank.

WooHoo, horizontal grinding! I'm surprised you never layed own on your bench to use the KMG as a horizontal. Have you go the chance to use a disc grinder yet? I think you would really utilize the benefits of a disc well.

Thanx for the advice, I wish it were as simple as "old skipper/friend vs. Money and new skipper," but it isn't. Both skippers are people I have known for a very long time, and I consider them both friends. To make things more interesting, they are both in the same fleet. I have some serious thinking to do, and other offers may still roll in. I don't even know if I am going to be racin at all this year. Seems like everyone around me is kicking me in the arse to get back onto the race course, but I just dont know yet.

I swear (!), I sometimes wish I never would have made the decision to go pro all those years ago, I miss sailing just for fun! But I never would have done the races or been the places I have, otherwise. I have raced on famous boats, sleds, maxi's, competed in world chamionship events, won several national titles, and cut my teeth as a rigger aboard tall ships and classics. I taught sailing to kids for 4 years as well. Damn, why does money have to make things so much more difficult! Ugh, well I have some thinking to do.
