Hey hey hey!

Still having technical difficulties with the site and photobucket as well. I try to read here often, but it doesn't let me post very often.

Very true! I just picked up a massive amount of photo equipment the other day, for free! So I have been busy trying to figure out what is what.

Now I have a couple things to finish up in the shop if I can get some free time. Brandi, Zyler and I all have a cold, so noone is really doing much of anything right now.

Hey guys, I have benn in Cincinnati for the last few days. The bummer part is I spent the last 24 (at least) hours in bed with food poisoning(?).The good part is I was able to find a good knife shop before I got sick.Looks like there has been alot going on at the Fairly compound, that is great! Have a good one y'all.

Nice score Xander! Sorry to hear you guys are sick, get well soon! I got over the flu I had forever but am still congested like crazy.

Hey Kevin! I hope you feel better too, food poisoning is rough!

Cool you got to see a good knife shop, the one here is laughable! Cheesy mall ninja stuff and swords with blasted on "hamons." The Army surplus is really cool though!

Have a good one everyone!

Hey Kevin, I think your in-laws are trying to poison you! They put exlax in the rocky road knowing that's your favorite breakfast meal!

Anyways, have fun, see ya when you get back! If you buy anything you don't want to fly with you can ship it to me.

'Sup Squatchers!

I got my name changed :D

A small thing but I've waited 3 weeks for it so now I'm all giddy with joy :p

Hey Daniel, quick advice needed: What Rc would you go for on a .25" 5160 6" bladed 11" OAL chisel ground Japanese tanto with a thicker edge? I'm thinking 58 maybe 59? I'd like to go higher but I'm not sure what the limits are for 5160. I've only used it in choppers and pry knives before and tempered to 56-57.

tldr; How hard can I sanely take 5160?

Congrats on the name change!

I'd go 59-60 on it. 5160 is versatile material and can get very hard with great toughness. It depends on edge thickness and angle of course. 61 should be fine too but do some testing.

Good morning y'all ! I am feeling MUCH better today! Thank you guys for the well wishes. I am going to go see Cincinnati now. Have a good one y'all!

Awesome, that's much better then I was expecting. Thanks Daniel!

Check this site - in my opinion this is as reliable as it gets http://www.cashenblades.com/steel/5160.html

Note the part where 5160 can hit 63 RC! 5160 is as versatile as can be, it seems that most info on it is geared towards making big choppers. 5160 can get really hard and hold a great edge while maintaining it's toughness.

I use 11 second or 28 second oil depending on edge and stock thickness. Even Canola is great on 5160 but can be on the fast side for a thin blade or edge.

I do my best to read the T Charts on steels I am heat treating, I still don't understand them 100% but they help a lot! lol

Hey Daniel, USPS says it's very close.

I took off my Samurai outfit so I don't scare the mail guy! :D I can't wait!!!! Thanks again!

Excellent to hear! Have a great day! Cool you are traveling...

I'm planning on another busy day here! I'm getting a late start here but was up until late watching the kilns.

Yesterday I heat treated 12 knives, molded 9 sheaths, finished one custom, chamfered and rounded the edges on 11 knives... and more!

Time to get busy!

Hey Cabra!

Hey Rolf!

What's going on guys!

I had a really productive morning yesterday... got 2 knives glued up as well as two wrapped and epoxy soaked!

After that I took a half day off and went to Pagosa Springs. We cruised around and I found a beer I really wanted to try at the local liquor store. Hobgoblin! Man it was good, top 10 material for me.

Today.., more knives :D I have a lot coming out soon as everything is getting close!

Lycosa you made me think of this... classic material

Hey folks
Just got home from Cincinnati today.I'm glad to be home but I can see why my wife loves it there so much.I am NOT a big city guy at all but Cincinnati did not feel like a big city at all.The city is broke up into neighborhoods that feel like they are there own little towns and each of them has it's own vibe. We spent alot of our time in the Northside, lots of cool old houses, record stores, lots of art and a cool bar called the Comet. I could go on and on but then I would have to type on and on :D Have a good night y'all.

That's cool! Getting to go to new places is the best. Cool on the neighborhoods too, I like places like that.

Where's Xander? making knives I bet

I'm going to go try the new chop saw, it looks good! It will help with profiling and cutting stock a ton! Plus I have always wanted one in case I get a welder, just set it to 45' and make frames and stuff.

Yo!

Been shootin a ton the past few days, cameras that is. Lots of new toys, lenses, speed lights, cameras, filters, software, etc.

Gotta get in the shop tomorrow and finish up a thing or two.

Zyler had a brief sighting of Sasquatch the other day, got his reaction on camera...
