Hey y'all . Got the day off finishing up a few things around the house then out for a bike ride.Just wanted to stop in and say hi.Have a good one.

Sounds good! Have a nice ride...

On break here, I have done a lot. Anyone want a pair of .187" thick, 18" long O1 steel small sword/tantos? :D

Ooo, a waki in aikuchi fittings would be killer! I really need to attempt a traditional japanese style blade, I keep staring at this Jimmy Lile tanto in aikuchi fittings with ivory and curly maple and I just can't get enough of it. It is likely my all time favorite knife. I just need to read up a bit more on the little details, you guys have any good references?

That is a good reference, I read through that one from time to time, I'm looking more for construction techniques. I have a good design already that I have just been keepin close. I may start on a smaller one, I have a piece of 1/8" D2 that's been kicking around my shop for a while. Never worked with D2, what edge thickness should I go for pre HT?

The Complete Bladesmith by Hrisoulas covers a lot of general construction techniques... I think that is the one.

You can take D2 very thin, keep the edge straight and I am not sure where the limit is. With a chisel grind I leave them thick. I grind air hardening post heat treat mostly now but that is just so I can always straighten it. I have never had a problem as D2 is very stable in heat treat.

Sounds cool!

Hmm, I have a digital copy of that, I will have to check through there tonight. Admittedly, I haven't read it completely yet, but I have it downloaded to my Nook.

Check out all three of his books, some of the info is redundant but between all three he literally covers everything. I think the series is under rated.

For tactical style Wally Hayes has an awesome video.

Ganoskin for soldering info. Tai Goo had some great tutorials on fittings.

Good evening men. I apologize for not bring around much. Been trying to get everything prepared for when I get my spinal fusion in 3 weeks. Gotta get my back fixed so I can hit the woods hard with my 2 Fairly Bowie knives!!!!!!

I think I'm gonna grind post-HT, too. I'm leaning towards D2 anyway, and they're not going to be terribly big- about 3".

It is a good idea and pretty standard on folders. D2 is pretty tough stuff to grind but slower might be better at first anyways.

New belts are your best friend when it comes to grinding.

That's been my thinking. Plus, if I bludgeon a couple, no biggie. I'll order more.

I've got a few D2 knives- my Farid, and my Daniel Fauxly. Always liked the D2.

Not too expensive either, compared to stainless and the CPM steels.

Shoot, Im beginning to miss spring already. It's been in the 90's. Funny, the Bay Area (SF) has a heat advisory in effect for today because it might reach 90! Big offshore breezes today which compress and heat up the coast.

gonna finish up my Wheaties and then head out to the shop for some work before work.
