Hello,
Thank you for the info!
how I can understand if my A1 pro is from the first batch?
I can't find any serial number on it.. or on the box..
I just bought A1 and F1 pro and I'm very sad to see a very good blade like this can have this kind of problem.
I asked where I bought them but they don't know anything about which batch could be.
Ciao,

Matteo

I sent an email to Fallkniven and received this response:
Dear Robert,

We have had teething problems with the Pro Series knives, problems we couldn’t foresee when we started the production.

1. The handles were a little lose upon the tang, around 0,3 mm or around 0.118”. This is adjusted at the mold which makes the handle.

2. The stainless steel crossguard could be moved up and down around 0,2 mm or around 0.079” though we used a well known solution. The crossguard is now welded to the tang and have absolutely no chance to move.

We have made a break test of the knives at the Technical University of Lulea and, as soon as we get enough time, we will display the results on our website. Still, what I can remember, these models are our strongest survival knives.

Best regards

Peter Hjortberger

Just do as Shawn did:
Use it like You stole it and if there's any trouble with the guard, send an email to Peter for advice.

According to Eric Hjortberger: "If you wiggle the fingerguard and hear a "click" send it back to us. The new ones have a fingerguard that is welded in place. "

Hope that helps! :)

Got my A1 Pro today... Handle/fingerguard rock solid... No nick in blade edge...
Considering the super cool case with included DC4 and improved sheath this baby is easily worth the $100 over a regular A1.
A huge thanks to Shawn for convincing me to make this purchase!

Hell yeah brother.

That's my favorite survival knife of all time.

Glad I could share my insanity :P

Cobalt Special (CoS) versus V Gold 10 (vg10)wear resistance

Cutting 3/8 manilla rope on a cutting board using the belly/tip area on each blade in a draw cutting saw motion.

Both knives were at equal sharpness after honing on a king 6k stone and Bark River White compound

They were both tested on newspaper

Making clean cuts without snags.

The edges were checked every 5 cuts.

The first 5 cuts removed the ability for either knife to cut without a snag.

At 10 cuts CoS was showing a very slight advantage but was still cutting with snags like the vg10

15 cuts in and vg10 became very difficult to cut the Manila rope and would no longer scrap shave.

CoS continued to shave until 25 cuts and became difficult to cut rope at 33 cuts.

For reference,
The Kabar BK 2 1095 crovan only lasted 5 cuts and would not shave. Then it was very difficult to cut the next 5 for a total of 10

Most
Interesting is that CoS was more response to stroping the Vg10

While neither returned to the sharpeness before the test it took fewer pass for CoS to return to hair shaving sharpness.

This is only my first test. I'll need a few more to confirm.

I'll post a video later

No problem on my A1 pro, i have tested with a hard woodwork and the guard is still good.
Now I can say the A1 pro is my favorite knife for camping.
The blade is very strong and sharp.. I love this knife.
Thank you and ciao..

Matteo

Thanks for the edge retention info DeadboxHero. I try to never to speak in absolutes, that one steel is "better" than another but it seems that Cos is superior to Vg10 in every way, other than cost. I might take my A1pro, new Benchmade Arvensis and Busse Ash 1 in the back yard today and mess around some.

I just received my Savage Made Sheath for the A1 Pro. A perfect fit. If anyone is interested you can send Harry an email found on his web site. Mine was $60 + $7 ship. He charges me an extra $5 to add the firesteel loop so without that you're looking at $55. He makes each one to order and turnaround is very quick. I cannot recommend Harry's work highly enough.

I'm with ya, it's my favorite overbuilt blade.

That would be sick!

Due share! :)

Wow, at a great price too. I love the stone pouch.

Thanks for sharing bro :)

Ur welcome bro! :)
The photos don't do it justice. They make it look sorta reddish and uneven when it's actually dark brown and very handsome. I consider $55 for a sheath of this caliber a steal. Harry is a true craftsman.
