Fallkniven A1 Pro review

I did a similar thing with my A1 . With use and exposure the rubber degrades a little. It becomes lighter in color and softer in texture, so I ended up with a gap where the ricasso is that I had to drown in superglue.

What would we do without some kind of glue and Superglue is very useful for many applications!

I'd rather send mine out for warranty work. correct me if I'm wrong but from what I've read in the past, the handles are shoved in the tang and not molded onto that's why it gets loose overtime. Ontario and Busse's molds their rubber handles around the tang and that's why you don't see any complaints regarding those handles.

Really?
I suppose You haven't seen the tang on the A1!
The shape needs a moulded handle!

Well, this is a good reminder why I don't do fixed blades with separate guards. Yes, in normal use they hold up fine when made well, but there is just no real reason for one unless for aesthetics. Just my opinion though.

I have nothing against fallkniven but for the price on these Pro series, I expect Micarta or g10 handles. Thermorun for obvious reasons will scratch, loose and soften overtime. And then you have to pay $25+ everytime it breaks.

Also, when it comes high production convex grinds, fallkniven kicks bark rivers butt when it comes to grind evenness and overall fit and finish.

You have a point, g10 and Micarta is much more attractive but I really like the theromrun, its very rugged.

The theromrun isn't the reason why this handle got loose or will get loose.

I'm waiting until I receive my Pro back from Fallkniven to share my thoughts and opinions

Standby

Oh Hell yea.

Got my Pro back today!

I didn't expect it back so soon.

I sent it out on 4/02/ 2016 standard shipping 2-3 weeks

It's now back 04/23/16

Damn, 3 weeks that's awesome.

Stay tuned

I have many of the traditional Fallkniven knives, but before I would invest in any of the pro series, it would be interesting to hear directly from the owner, on how they plan to address the issues with the guard and loose handle. Who wants to pay $300 or more for a new knife, just to slice off the handle and fill it with Gorilla glue. It's like a bad joke.

Well, if You think so that's ok with me, but I prefer to do things my own way if I think it's better.
Not for everyone and I'm well aware of that.
Observe that the guard on my F1 Pro was tight and not loose in anyway.
The same goes for the handle.
The seam between the handle and guard was absolutely tight.
No gaps whatsoever!

I'm not critical of your work. You are talented enough to fix a lot of things yourself, and I do the same thing. I just don't think that it should be necessary on a brand new Fallkniven knife.

It's not necessary, use the warranty

Also, it seems to be a first batch issue.

I am curious to know what the defect was, and how Eric can be certain that it won't surface again. Did they forget the adhesive on some of them, or did they just lack an additional pinning system that wasn't installed?

Great CS from fallkniven. But I really doubt they found all the knives with that issue. Personally, I'd rather spend $300 on this one.

Good question, I don't know currently

That's a great knife.
Personally, I'd rather have A1 Pro :D

Will you repeat the test and check if the new knife holds up?

Done

Powered through like a damn champion I am super stoked. :D

I'm also surprised,

I didn't think it would split the wood.

This is an abusive test and great way to break a knife.

I wouldn't do this in the field, batoning is all about proper wood selection

But I had to give this beast of a blade the redemption it deserves.

Eric said some of the first batch A1 Pros had some guard fitting issues. Sounds like the guards are handcrafted onto the blade and they weren't properly fitted to the handle.

New batch fixed

Problem solved.

No loosening of the guard.

Lifetime warranty baby woo!
