Favorite Pen?

It would've been more happiness had we actually gone out. But at least I'll have one next time that happens (if it happens again  ).

Update: Got my PENWA deal in last friday in the USPS mail.

Fisher Bullet Pen & Fisher Refill $11.00 GO BUY NOWWWWWWWWW!!!

I seem to be on a Pilot Pen binge...

I have consistently used their G-2 gell rollar balls for the past 6 months w/o a glitch. They write smooth and the pens themselves are comfortable to hold. I prefer the .5mm point. I've also learned that the Pilot G-2 refills will fit in a Rotring 600 rollar ball. On another thread someone asked about Rotring 600 refills. I hope they read this.

Sanford makes a retractable gel rollar ball w/.38mm point. They work good too if you like an ultra fine line.

As for ballpoints. Depending on my mood, I'll use either Rotring 600's, Pilot Easytouch w/fine point (They can be found anywhere.) and Cross. I prefer fine points. But one manufacturers fine point may be the same as anothers medium point. The ballpoint that I use the most is a Pilot ballpoint/stylus pen that I bought at CompUSA for ~$3.50. I need the stylus because I am a die-hard PDA user. The OEM styli that most PDA's come with just aren't comfortable to write with.

My main complaint is that black ballpoint ink isn't as dark as most rollar/gel/fountain pen ink. It can be hard to read if you aren't pressing down very hard.

I'm the one whose Rotring 600 was missing the refill. I'd already bought G2 refills in advance, because I prefer gel ink refills over rollerball refills.

I'm using a fine G2 refill, but it's still not as fine as my fine Uni-ball Signo (perhaps rebadged as Sanford here in the US?). A label in Japanese on the pen says "0.33", so I guess that it's a 0.33mm ball. Too bad it doesn't fit in my Rotring.

I hate when the line width gets too heavy, it makes my writing very difficult to concentrate on. Kind of like reading an all-caps text on the computer.

One thing about the G2 pens is that I've had two of them break on me. The threaded area is the weak point of the pen. I've also had the refills leak ink out of the top, but that must have been a freak occurence from my carry style. Haven't heard of anyone else having problems.

Space Pens for me....

Proud owner of:

1. Bullet Space Pen
2. Telecoping Space Pen
3. Military Pen

Cheers

Are the space pens really reliable? Are the posts here with blotting problems production flukes or are they present with most fishers?

My chrome bullet pen does 'blob' quite often i.e. spit out spurious ink and this does detract from what otherwise would be a perfect pen for me.

I think this must be because the ink is pressurized in the chamber and is eager to get out on to the paper. Hence, the intrinsic blotting problems you talk of.

I still use it a heck of a lot though.

Just discovered Pilot G-3 Gels and Uniball Fusions - very nice writers indeed ! Cheap too.

For about the last year everyone in our agency and many others I have seen are using the Pilot G2s. We write for a living and this pen has surpassed all the others I see.

Mercop...
Is the G2 a gel type ? What thickness is available for the G2 ? What makes them so good ?

Thanks

They come in 0.7mm & 0.5mm points. I personally like the 0.5mm. AS for why they are so good... It's hard to describe. Try one for awhile and you'll understand. Trust me. (I know, the two most dangerous words in the english language!) ;)

I just received 3 Fisher Bullet pens from Penwa. Great communication and fast service. They were willing to ship this via USPS Global Priority to me instead of using a courier (which would have resulted in a ton of extra charges). I recommend them!

:)

Based on the the replies I read here I finally picked up a Bullet Space Pen. I have to say that I am not very impressed with it. I wanted to like it, as I was pretty excited when I first bought it but it didn't perform as I liked. As others have said, I get an occasional blob of ink that comes out when I write. And I was expecting a nice dark line but it seemed a little light which is typical of other ball point pens, and I prefer a solid line that you get from rollerballs. Two other minor compliants I have is that the clip came off when I tried to clip it in my jeans pocket, and you need to really have the cap firmly pushed onto the body when you use it, or else the pen will flex when I grip it.

I have no doubt that when I need a pen to write with under almost any condition that it will perform reliably for me, but sitting at my desk when I can grab any number of pens, I would use something else. Like a lot of others here for an everyday pen I like to use a Pilot G-2 Gell Rollerball. My favorite is the Pilot Execugel. It looks nice, writes smooth and has a nice, even, dark line. I'm not really a pen fanatic, so I know it doesn't compare to expensive fountain pens, but I won't cry if I lose it either.

either a retro 51 (got about 4 different ones) or a mont blanc ball point. the mont blanc makes a nice statement, but the retro writes nicely.

also got to use a 'namiki' yesterday that was nice, looking for em right now.

Think I'll check out the G2's as they seem to have a large following. Just found out that they are the number one selling pen in the US !

As for the Space Bullet pen, I didn't go for the clip option as I figured that it would eventually come loose and slide off the pen itself. I keep it in a small leather change wallet instead which both protects it and makes it harder to lose !

Thanks Phlounder for your comments on the G2.

I agree that the Fisher space pen refills just aren't great writers.

My fave cheap pen these days si the Pilot P-700, I just love the way it writes. It's gel ink, I don't know if it's a rollerball or something else. The only pen that I have that has a nicer writing feel is my fountain pen.

Rotring Quattro with black, red, 0.5 mm lead, and orange underliner tips.

Rotring Core in black. (edited to add that it's the rollerball)

I always have trouble with Rotring. Fishers are reliable, but they tend to be not that comfortable to use, for me. One day I'd like one of Grayson Tighe's damascus pens. One day...
