Favorite Pen?

That's what I used to have (I lost it, grrr!), but I replaced the red pen with a PDA stylus. Loved the convenience of having all four incredibly useful implements in one pen. But never liked the blue pen refills. The Rotring version doesn't feel great, and I also tried a Fisher multi-pen refill (they fit in the Quattro just fine) which also feels crappy. I found myself grabbing almost any other pen than my Quattro when I just wanted to write with blue ink, because I so disliked the feel of the Rotring and Fisher refills.

I'm wondering if there are any standard multipen refills that fit the Rotring Quattro, and have superior writing quality... any ideas? Rotring's and Fisher's don't fit the bill, IMO.

Did I say blue tip? I meant black. I almost picked blue, but decided on black because I like how it looks better. And yeah, the quality of the refills isn't exactly perfect, but I have no ideas on what would work better. Mainly I use the pencil. It's nice for Chemistry and math to have a good mechanical pencil. I usually have the Core or a Pilot G-2 on me too, so when I want to use a pen and I care about the quality I just use one of those.

I like Montblancs. My EDC is the Hemingway ball pen. My favorite pen, though, is the MB 149 Diplomat huge fountain pen. When I dress up, I carry the Alexander Dumas ball pen.
I also like to use pens that have Parker's new liquid ink replacement refill for the Jotter.

I'm a big Waterman pen fan! And it's got to be a Roller Ball. My only fine pen is a Waterman Expert Roller Ball in a red marble color.

Fine pens are certainly something (like watches) on which I could easily blow way, way, way too much money!

Try: www.penrefill.com (part of Levengers)You can also call and tell them the pens that you have and see if Levenger carries one that is of a different manufacture, yet fits your pen.:)I.E. Rotring Quattro

Getting in on this a bit late, but what the heck. I carry at work a Sensa Designer Noir and Gold with Fisher cartrige, which is shown below.

I also have a Telescoping bullet that I bought using the same link to Penwa gifts for $20. Like it says, don't ask questions, just click the link and order. Apparently it is a link that shouldn't be active still, but they will honour the listed price without question. I also tried to get the black City Lights Sensa on that page, but it has been discontinued. I also carry a Black Fisher bullet with the stylus tip.

All are very nice.

Mike

Edited to add: Another thing about ordering from Penwa is they include a free Fisher refill with every Fisher or Sensa pen you buy, so this makes the telescoping pen for $20 deal even better, since each refill is $4.

penwa.com link still working. Just orderd my spacepen for $14 shipped with extra refill. Cant' beat that deal. Also still had the expanding pen for $20. Thought about both, but still a cheap bastard. Thanks for the link. :)

I've used fisher space pens for about 15 years and still prefer them to most any other. Currently I use a sensa pen with a fisher jumbo blue refill. The jumbo tends to write smoother with less noticeable clumping. I really want either the carbon nickel fiber (stealth fighter and mars rover) or the titanium sensa but $100 for a pen is more than I can currently justify. Sensa pens are some of the finest engineered pens on the market, much more than I ever would have figured (before I visited their website).

If anyone ever has a real problem with a fisher product, you should really contact fisher. They are a good company to deal with and they stand behind their products.

As to the G-2... Never been much of a fan of those. I like smoother writing pens than that. The .5 and .7 are just too narrow for me. I prefer the Scripto giga which writes at 1.0 or 1.2 ( I can't remember), and it's the only good thing I've ever used with the word scripto on it.

Anyhow, just ordered the telescoping fisher with a jumbo refill. I can't wait.

I have a Fisher Bullet in my key pouch - comes in very handy.
At work I use the Fisher Military Clipomatic, quick to deploy, robust and dependable.
Fisher pens are great for doing crossword puzzles in bed while lying on your back!!

To me the real advantage of the Fisher Space Pen is not its ability to write on the moon, on the ocean floor etc, but simply it's size and durability. If I have a different pen available I'll almost always use it instead. But with the Fisher in your pocket, you've ALWAYS got an at least adequate pen available

I got an old style Rotring 600 that I put a Parker ballpoint gel refill in.

I love the way this pen writes. I like the feel of the Rotring 600 with knurled grip, and the Parker gel refill writes incrdibly smooth and looks almost like a fountain pen.

For you guys with pens that take a Parker ballpoint refill, take a look at their gel refills. Wow!

My faves:
1) Rotring 600
2) Fisher Space Pens (telescopic and regular)
3) Cross Morph

Just a late update ['bout the Quattro I bought] :D my wife loved it, I love it, and the major problem is choosing who uses it.

I got mine really painlessly (for the UK) from this retailer who delivered quickly. Haven't needed a refill yet.

Still carry a Fisher bullet in T.H.E. Wallet and one in the car ashtray, but I like the Quattro

I'm partial to Parker fountain pens and rollerballs. Have a couple of Duofolds and a Sonnet that I really, really like. Extremely well made, just the right balance for my hand, and I love Parker's ink!

Reading this thread leads me to a question. I have a Rotring 600, roller ball. The refills cost a lot and dont seem to last a long time. What other refills fit in it? Is there a good gel ink refill? (Did someone mention the Parker G2 refill?) And lastly, where do you get them? Alas, our most stocked stationers is a Wal Mart.
