February 2022 Buck of the Month - 891, GCK Spear Point, 3V, Black G10

Great knife. Excellent offering by Buck. I have not purchased any of the BOTM knives thus far. This months offering is one of just a few that have peaked my interest.

I own two in 5160 so I am not sure I will splurge on this version. Although, substituting a black leather backing for the "injection molded polypropylene" sheath (instead of polyester) would have made it impossible to resist.

I would like to see Buck offer a 124 in 3V (fingers crossed).

This knife would make such a SWEET pre-deployment gift for someone in the armed forces. :)

I'm kind of surprised that there are any left. It's not super cheap, but I really think there is a lot of value here. If you look around at full-tang fixed blades in 3V, with excellent heat treats and I think people would be surprised at the prices they demand.

As Tigerden Tigerden pointed out, the first thing this reminded me of is a CPK. I kind of look at this as kind of like a budget CPK. You still get the awesome 3V steel and a great heat treat (although it's a BOS standard 3V heat treat instead of the Delta protocol)... Just with a lot less refinement. Kind of like the CPK Kephart vs the Becker BK62 Kephart.

Man... I'm kind of talking myself into one of these. Maybe a bedside drawer or glove box knife until I find someone in the armed forces to gift it to, lol. :D

The scabbard readily strips from the suspension, and that package also fits nicely into coat pockets and other places... just sayin'!

I held out as long as I could....... but I broke down and ordered one.

And that proves as often said here "resistance is futile"... I gave up trying to fight it.

As an often seen coin infomercial says "avoid disappointment and future regret... order now". So I did... :)

But seriously... as mentioned earlier, when you look at the higher prices that the regular 5160 version has on ebay, as a discontinued model, in comparison the price of this botm is not that bad with the premium 3V steel.

I justified to myself by thinking it would be a good friend to the 104 in 3v..... I think knives need friends... right?? Now the wife might not feel the same way.

Mine showed up today.
