February 2022 Buck of the Month - 891, GCK Spear Point, 3V, Black G10

Mine showed up today... and I agree, it's really difficult to pull out of the kydex sheath, even with the tension screws completely backed off.

The issue is the molded in indent in the sheath is too deep, fortunately being kydex, a few minutes with a heat gun to slightly iron out
the depth of the indent a bit does the trick.

The indent on Fuzzybuck's sheath does not look as deep or pronounced as the one on mine before I changed it.

Overall workmanship on the knife is great, but mine is no where to being close to Buck's usual sharpness standard... it's flat out mediocre.

What about the sharpness on your knife?

Received mine today. Unfortunately, one was so dull I couldn't cut a marshmallow with it. The one pictured is very sharp though. Guess I need to learn how to sharpen 3V steel now.

Mine is plenty sharp 👌
*️⃣The problem is I'm old and weak. The arthritis in my hands make it difficult to pull the blade out.
What tips can you give so that I don't over cook the Kydex and make it to loose

I've got arthritis in my hands too.

I set my heat gun on the highest heat setting and lowest blower speed. Keep the gun moving, hold it about 2 away... heat until it just becomes semi-pliable, it only takes a 10 - 20 seconds. While heating use a 1/2" wooden dowel or something similar, to press on the indent from the inside of the sheath to test for when the kydex starts to get pliable, stop heating and then press on "bump" to raise it up.

Don't try to do it all at once... heat it, adjust a little, let it cool and test.

It took doing that 3 times until I got it to my liking where the effort to draw and re-sheath was easier, but not lose enough where the knife is not held securely.

I hope he is! I've been waiting for the word that he's back making sheaths. I have a Buck fixed blade or two that is in dire need. :)

C&C has the 891 Sniper Grey Ground Combat Knife (GCK) Spear Point for $144. I believe C&C is a supporting dealer (they are meantioned often enough). So if you missed this version the first time around (now discontinued) - this version is the 5160 steel. Not 3V steel.
yep saw that email. grabbed one as its the one I dont have yet in the series.

Got mine today, what a great looking blade! The gray scales look perfect with the bead-blasted blade, nice and grippy, the fit and finish and machine work is overall excellent, just a hair of some machine lines on one side at the back of the false edge but you have to look pretty close to see them. The stock is thick, nice and beefy, you really know you have something in your hand when you pick up this knife. Balance is in the hand, this knife does seem seriously stabby as opposed to utilitarian. But again, just a gorgeous blade.

Sheath was tight like others have mentioned, don't think it's too tight on mine though so no adjustment needed, kind of a strange sheath but most sheaths like this these days seem weird and overthought to me, plenty of carrying options with it though....I have a spare 119 leather sheath, wonder if it would fit?

Not super sharp like some of my Bucks, but not bad, I imagine some stropping will help....never sharpened or stropped 3V before so don't know if I need special equipment, but I need to pick up a diamond sharpener or two anyway for wife's new Elmax blade, i'm guessing that will work fine on 3V....

Overall very happy, thanks Buck for another cool blade for our collection!
