Andy:

So sorry to hear about Boudreaux....thoughts & prayers for you and your family. We lost a 2 yr old Great Pyrenees to a blood disorder similar to Leukemia so I can empathize with you having such a short time with Boudreaux. Its never easy and there is no best way. Sending smoke.

I found out at the vet last week that Boudreaux has cancer. Its an agressive cancer in his blood vessels. The vet says 2 months. He is by far the best dog I've trained. He's 6 now. That wasn't enough time with him. We haven't told the kids yet. They got back from camp Saturday.

Dang dude .. he's a very cool dog with an awesome personality. Very sorry to hear this.

That sucks Andy. I really don't know what to say. I feel like sending some funds so you can feed Bourdeaux T-bones for the next few months.

Stay positive man.

Smoke from Sacto.

Horrible news Andy. Prayers he may beat this. I had a beagle get parvo when she was a only a few months old. Vet said she had less than a week and less than 1% chance to make it. She pulled through. Theres always hope.

Strong pets come from strong owners. I'll be praying for yall.

Ps this thread is cursed. Seriously. Probably my last post in this one.

On a positive note, Rocco and I are having more and more thunderdome death matches. He's an old man and he doesn't fight as strong and fast as he used to, but I let him win. He'll always be my little champ.

We've got a stray that some of the kids on the street named Chocolate. We're not allowed to have pets at our place but we feed him and give him some much needed love. He's got a sweet personality and even my wife who is not a dog person loved him! He's eating steak and potatoes and lovin' it!

Aw, man. Andy, that's terrible. Six is so young, but there's never enough time when you've got such a great companion. Prayers for strength and peace.

To all you people with canine trouble/illness issues, my apologies. My thoughts are with you. Our 8 year old bulldog Lola has been developing some eye problems for the past year and upon the last vet trip, we learned she is indeed going blind. All we can do is keep the eye's cleaned with saline and treat with 3 different types of prescription eye drops.

anyone here ever had a pooch with eye issues? Any tips or hints to make the process a little less brash?

If you have 2 dogs, odds are it won't take much adjustment for the one that loses sight. A friend of mine growing up had one that went blind and he relied on his brotherdog to lead him everywhere. And brotherdog took care of him like no other. He would go down the stairs and whine while blinddog went down behind him and so he knew how much further to go. It was actually really cool. and the blinddog never had any real problems, he never got too far from his owners, just kind of hung out in the sun and followed around brotherdog. so as bad as it is, it could be worse.

Also, Sorry for everyone having pooch problems. My wishes are with all of you.

Looks like at the end of the day y'all are both winners if that's were Rocco gets refuge. Well done!

Friend's chow has bad glaucoma and lost one eye at 3 and the other at 5. He does AMAZINGLY well (8 now). It is pretty amazing how well he adapted. I know I wouldn't adjust that easily, and I'm half blind without my glasses already. She will probably stay a little closer and need a little more guidance from you, but I suspect she'll do well, even if she loses her sight.

Following on from the above. What do other guys think? Perhaps the last word should come from Andy, if he feels that it needs closing then out of respect for him, it should be closed.

Thank you all for your support. I'm leaving the thread open. The tragic part is just one part. The thread will get fun again.

On that basis I want to throw some happiness into the pan. Just really a very quick update for myself. Yes has been a rocky ride since the loss of Mags, but the old adage of time being a healer is a sound one. I can now look back on the happy times I had with her. Crazy times, in fact, when I first started my business. I rented work space in a council owned building - NO DOGS ALLOWED. Smuggled her in, under their noses for the best part of 4 years - got caught - written warning, got caught again on a fire drill of all things (I know bad on my part), another final warning. We had a talk, just me and the dog and we agreed in for a penny in for a pound, lets keeping hedging our bets. In the end I actually moved from the area, and Mags spent her last years in and out of her house enjoying the sun on her back when she wanted, while I worked in a home office. Much better for all of us. She never gave the game away in her undercover missions into the unit, never once barked, she knew the score. To be honest she only ever barked at wasps! So I think if the council manager had knocked on the door of the unit dressed in a wasp costume it would have been game over! ;)
