Fiddleback User Pics

what steel is your knife that was damaged? what wood were you using it on? Just curious.

It's O1 steel. The wood was cedar. I was a little blown away after I took a look at the edge. Like I said, I've never run into this issue after such minimal use before. Can't lie, I'm a little bummed/concerned about it... Hopefully I wont run into this issue again. I sent an email regarding my concern, but haven't heard back yet. I'm sure Andy is just busy grinding steel...

I never had an issue with Andy's O1.

One of my knives is from the W&SS Bushcraft Challenge, and we tested those knives hard.

I bet Andy will want to see that knife, could be that the edge was set a bit too thin.

I wouldn't worry too much, Andy stands behind his knives.

Most scandis are a zero grind. The edge on my convex Bushcrafter is pretty thick compared to that.

Nearly one year old now, still looking awesome, and still my favorite bushcraft knife to date :)

What a coincidence Mist, it was that knife and your review awhile back that finally drove to to pick up the Kephart from yestarday's batch.

The forest green one from yesterday looks great, nice score! If I had the money I might have snatched that one too. Being SFT 1/8, I be it handles like a dream! I do love this one, but I do want one with a bit lighter handle now that I am more used to Andy's tapered tangs. Not sure if I want a tapered 5/32, or SFT 1/8...

Unfortunately picking up that Kephart up came with a price. I will have to let a Ladyfinger go to cover the cost. I wanted an 1/8" blade to replace the 1/8" Ladyfinger I'll be posting later today. I think the Kephart will be a bit more versatile for my needs.

Yep, been there myself, but since I can't use them all at once anyway, the sting usually (but not always) fades. I've had both. The Ladyfinger is a great knife for its intended role, I just prefer the more oval handle and pointy blade of the Kephart for more bushcraft type uses.

Went on a quick 10k hike today, since I'm on-call and can't get out to the mountains. It was a pretty warm day (-7*C), but the trails haven't been used much and I had to tramp around in ~8" of snow. Here's some pics of the day:

Thanks for looking guys. :)

Well I'm no Vance or Mistwalker but I had to give the new Recluse a try in the kitchen tonight.

Ignore the Global santoku off to the side. It was there just for back up.

Starting to develop some character already!

The extra belly on the Recluse was really appreciated when trying to get into the avocado halves in order to pre-cube them. The blade shape was near perfect for this.

All in all I am glad that the Fiddleback is not my only kitchen knife, it is not especially well suited to mincing and dicing as you cant really rock it, but then again it was never designed for this type of use. I just really wanted to get a patina started and the veggies really did that for me. This is my first O1 knife that I have actually used and I am impressed with all of the colors that develop! Much more so than my A2 knives. Well, OK, not much more, but perhaps just a 'lil more? Anyway now she's really mine.

P.S. Sorry for the poor quality cell phone pics. I am awaiting a proper camera, perhaps sometime around christmas. :)
