Fiddleback User Pics

You're welcome guys. I love tracking down stuff like this. It's fun going back through the old batches to see how things have changed.

In case you're wondering here's how I went about finding this one. I went to Arizona Custom Knives as they list all the Fiddlebacks they've had and what date they were added. Gives a good reference to what models looked like at different times. Not a very complete list, and some of the knives look like they were added way past the build date, but in general it's helpful. Seeing the Kardas told me Tod's was probably a 2011 vintage. Then I did a BF search for threads started by Fiddleback that contain the keyword Karda. This will grab the FF threads that Andy started that have the word Karda in it. It'll find Bushcraft Kardas and EDKs and threads where people say "I wish it had a Karda", but those are fun to look at anyway. I started at the beginning of 2011 and went through them. Pull up two windows and blow up the pics side by side and match the spalting. The spalting is like a fingerprint. As long as you can get a good enough pic of it, you can use it to match 'em up.

Since you have a build-date targeted, you can then go to the fotki albums and with some patience one can find the exact knife they're looking for. Andy has photog'd every knife that has passed through the Forge.

Research is fun. :D

Found my bushcraft karda using your research techniques Nathan. It was from blade 2011. Look at the green one next to it!!!! Green... Burlap.... Scandi... Three of my favorite things!

If you own that green bushcraft karda, or either of the brown ones for that matter.... I would love to buy it!!!!

How about these comp cutters and camp knives from blade that year! Talk about epic spalting. There are some beautiful bolstered shadetree bushfingers and bushcrafters and an epic woodsman from the same batch!

The spalting on the ground flats looks too cool. I've dreamt about those for a long time. I believe one of the comp cutters was on the market a while back. There was a Hunter in the same style on the bay a couple weeks ago.

And I agree, I'd take any of those scandi BCKardas.

Funny how we all have different tastes. Myself, I never cared much for the 3-D spalting when it first came around. It reminded me too much of...well...popcorn. But over time as the look has evolved to a more polished finish I've grown rather fond of it.

Ok guys I'm having no luck finding this one...

Bloodwood, stainless pin and green bullseye.

The single stainless pin tells me 2009. Which makes it hard as those were the days of orders.

But, I think this is close?

Specifically, look at this post where a question is asked and then Andy's answer:

That is a Bushcrafter wearing Paduk over East Indian Rosewood, and it is for an order. It really did come out nice!!!

The thing that makes me think it's close is look at the grain pattern in the wood. The dark stripe right above the stainless pin. The lighter streak at the belly of the handle. Maybe I'm stretching too far?

If it's not that one, I'm pretty sure I'm in the right vintage.

I think it's somewhere circa 2009 too. That's about when Andy quit using those corby bolts.

That is the exact knife! WOW! The grain is way too similar, it has to be the same knife!!!!!! Good work!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thurin thanks for looking that up for me. I really love that knife. It's really cool to look back and see how things have evolved over time. This forum is a great group...

What do you do with an a simply terrible attempt at a try stick?....

turn it into kindling!

for use in hi-tech kitchen!

(camp knife was not used for try stick cuts!)

Couldn't decide which knife to use to prep a meal, so I let a couple share the load..

Both did the job but the full height grind nessmuk is born to slice

..peeling the spuds was a nessie task

...chopping them was a breeze with the Camp Knife

...pork was skinned and cubed effortlessly

...prep work over

...treat for chef while cooking

...finished Pork Caldereta

...gratuitous Kephart shot!

Great photos Jules and a top feed even though I have no idea what Pork Caldereta is.
Love the Camp and the Nessie , you can bring the Messy Nessie to OZ if you want:p
