Fighting windmills(or the futility of fighting my issues)......

Guys please it's X Mas and all I want to see is the best Bowie thread please don't Fight

All of you I respect greatly so I do not want to tell you guys your business but what has happened here is simple Jim posted some work up that STeven thought was not his cup of tea really was not mine either. Steven vocalized his opinion in return he offended Jim who Steven cares for very much . Steven takes friendship very seriously and is extremely loyal so now instead of taking the chance of offending people he likes he is willing to bow out

This is nonsense Steven publicly and privately tells me my taste sucks we both laugh at it and it's all good

Personal attacks are one thing but to comment on someone's tastes is what forums are for

Please everyone stop wearing your hearts on your sleaves we are talking about knives not our kids

Joe,

I agree with your statement except for the fact that STeven has never offended me. I don't agree with everything he says or him with me, but I consider him a good friend. Any time that we have disagreed in a posting I have either called him on the phone or emailed him about it. We sometimes have agreed to disagree on a particular knife. We both collect many of the same maker's knives, but not all of ours tastes are the same.

I know that STeven is a very loyal friend and that if you disagree with a friend on something, that does not stop him from being a friend.

I will post no further on this thread except to say that I hope that STeven continues to contribute to Bladeforums.com. His posts are always informative and interesting. He has helped many of us by sharing his knowledge of custom knives.

Jim

Joe, I think part of what I see, your post got it right about using the forum to express thoughts on others' tastes. I think Bagwells suck and others love Bagwells. I think Ericksons and Warenskis are Godly creations, while many regard them as overly bejeweled, perhaps.

This is expression, but doesn't get nasty. I try and keep my mouth shut about the negative - hey Joe, no offense, Bagwells are A-1 fighters, just not my cuppa tea, but you know that!

Bob

Bob no offense taken

Even though I think your taste in knives looks like something from the Franklin Mint :)

Only kidding buddy Merry Xmas

HaHa - now this is what it's all about, having fun. Hey, you don't know how hard it is to find all that colored glass and thin brass wire inlay in the right sizes!

That's an excellent point.
Many of the partisipants who have the most to offer and most "hands-on" knife experence are leaving or have greatly cut back their activity because (as STeven) they don't like the direction this forum is going.

I don't think the forum changed, nor did the quality of the "custom and handmade" knives. My opinions on what that means shares a very strong parallel to the original post. Though I don't get worked up over the ones I think are misfiled, I do take notice when they appear.

I am pretty sure that the more recent noise in the forum is more likely due to the new format, current posts hit the home page often, and opens up previously hidden "in plain sight" sub-forums to nearly all active users. Even I catch myself posting in places I didn't venture before because I see things I want to comment on.

Maybe it is now that Bladeforums needs the informed members to post MORE not less. The young makers, the posters that got lost, and the new knife folk need the older generation to help guide them down the right path, the same as with everything else in life. Terminology, the various skills, the materials, they could all go unnoticed to the untrained eye.

I found the comment about wasting precious materials on otherwise less than amazing blades thought provoking. It's on the money it doesn't make the work AWESOME. Though I would like to think I could spot one when I see the specs, I can't recall one that really jumped out and made me say WTH is that about? Though I am certain they exist.

Seriously if you have something to share, please find a way to start sharing that in a constructive manner, everyone. This place would not be what it is, without both the combined knowledge present and the distaste by the group at large for BS and shenanigans that do a disservice to knives and knife people. NO ONE WILL ENJOY EVERY POST HERE, BUT GOOD POSTS WITH CONTENT ARE NEVER EQUAL TO "JOUSTING AT WINDMILLS!"

Steven, is your Myers-Briggs Type ISFP?

ISTP.

On the exit thing.....No I am not making a big exit, quitting BladeForums, ceasing to post.....

I am not commenting on the current or future crop of custom knives made by makers I do not know, I am not generally going to participate in conversations requiring a negative approach, because as Coop stated, it takes too much work, and I will most likely not be heard for what it is, anyway.

I love BladeForums, but I liked it better before....there was a stronger mix of old guard to newbies, and Randy knew when to pipe in, and when to let us be...it was way more fun, and garbage/stupid ass knives were (correctly) ridiculed....that doesn't happen anymore, it is all PC and you "are all swell", and everybody gets butthurt when there is any negative comments.

Karda....well buddy, you have a total knack for inserting yourself into places that you don't belong. Do you even own a custom knife from a top maker? You are like a stalker, pal. Glad to know that I have your attention...we can take it to you know where so we can have an honest, cleansing conversation....I welcome it.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Don't flatter yourself more than you already do, Steve. You set such a fine example for others to follow.
I'm just as welcome to post in this subforum as anyone else. Your need to control the content here and steer the custom knifemaking genre in general is probably what is wrong here, not what the knifemakers happen to make, wether or not it conforms to your ideals.
The talk about others being butthurt is hilarious, especially since this thread is all about you being butthurt about people not listening to you to the point you don't want to participate.

Well good. :) I miss Randy, too. Like, a lot. His non-partisan approach to moderation was a fine example of how to do it right.

Just for the record. I'm not, nor will i ever moderate this forum. I post here as a member. Perhaps that is another matter and moderation is needed here to encourage proper posting. :)
