Actually, two have been deducted from SB and one added to Barlow, So it is officially 44 Barlow and 41 SB

Hmm, seems Barlow will be the one, but if we're able to get a swayback done, think how much rarer (& neater) it would be. Just a thought.

I'm assuming if a Barlow's chosen, it's going to be a fairly big one, I'm guessing people want something around 3 3/4-4" or so.

I haven't voted yet. I'm waiting to see if Bastid makes something unusual/rare happen on the Swayback Jack front. I have a Case Chestnut Swayback, and if Case is the only Swayback maker in town, well, I already have one. But on the other hand if Bastid gets another maker to make a different Swayback Jack pattern, I would be all over that.

Wait and see is my vote.

in for thee classy swayback :p I don't got much knives money this year, but I'll afford myself this one - find myself trawling the trad forums a surprising amount.
& if we can post preferences, I'd love to see it in an white or lighter colour bone/micarta. CV or D2, I'm not picky :D

I just voted Swayback and fully intend to follow through if it wins. Do we get a say in the details beyond the pattern, once one is set?

I will consider the Barlow if it wins, but it would have to be 3" closed, 1095 steel, have bolsters on both ends, a Clip Point main blade and a small Spear blade, Burnt Stag scales, big writing on the blades, and be made in Titusville, PA.

Bolsters on each end would mean it's not a Barlow, that'd be a Jack of some kind, I believe, but not a Barlow...:D

Incidentally, you'd love my GEC Northfield Frontier bone Barlow with wharncliffe main blade & a small clip-point, then.

I beleive they call it a Great Eastern NF Barlow Jack.

GEC would make a great knife, I am sure, but their current Barlow is too small! I think we are mostly agreed, we want a bigger knife than last time.
Swayback and Barlow, neck and neck - very exciting!

That is correct. I believe it was Mr. Bose that stated that a Barlow doesn't have end caps on it, just one & it's approx. 1/3 of the handle length, IIRC.

GEC's Barlow & Barlow Jack are nice, but they are a little small at 3", but they are nice & with GEC's usual "overbuiltness", the Barlow rides well in the pocket because of its smallness.

This is getting interesting. Is there a cutoff date for voting, BTW?

I do believe that based upon the relative smallness of ALL of the Forum Knives(2 small and a medium if memory serves) that the Esteemed Body of Folks is going to move towards a larger knife(up to 4" closed) this year.....and would be disappointed if that was not the case.

I doubt that you are going to convince the majority to pick a knife that meets all of the above criteria....if not, thanks for playing "Help design the BladeForums 2009 Traditional Knife".

Well, neck and neck. Maybe we could find some more preliminary info on each of the knives and have more of specifics for each knife. That way everyone can make a more informed decision.

Good one.

I'm just saying I am in for the Swayback come what may. But not the Barlow. I have less than no interest in that style.

Just so everyone is informed, a standard Barlow pattern is usually 3 3/8" to 3 7/16".
The handles on Case and Queen made ones are broad, so, with the large bolster, give the appearance of a larger knife, and are hefty in the hand.
I can't imagine we will get a company to make special tooling, i.e: a longer one, for our small order, but stranger things have happened. Tooling involves several dies for thousands of dollars.
I still think, if we can get a signature bolster (I know, I know; special tooling - but only one tool!) and two long blades, we'll have a knockout of a knife!

I've decided I agree with you 100%. The swayback offers something different&distinctive. Stamped Barlow bolsters with the forum name could end up looking 'industrial' or like some advertising give-away:eek:

I think the signature bolster idea is being read wrong here!!
Barlows with stamped bolsters gave you bragging rights on the courthouse steps, several generations ago! They have a long and revered history in pocketknife tradition!!
