Finally seeing the other side of Strider

Nevermind, its unimportant.

I'll pass on the guessing game.
Maybe we can play it in general so as not to derail a strider customer service related thread.

LOL. Your tolerance for a little bit of levity in this thread is low...

Truth is Strider crapped the bed here long ago, no matter what they turn out it will still be :thumbdn: with most. That's just the way it is.

Many people are against second chances it seems...

Is it the, Strider?

Nope.

Definitely the Buck!!!

Not even close.

No it's the Spyderco! ;) (what did I win?)

Ding! Ding! Ding! Winner. It's the only knife in the group that is a close to flawless as possible especially for the price. Even the CRK action/lockup wasn't as smooth as it is, at least in IMHO.

I don't know if it is flawless, but the Buck/Mayo is a sweet little knife. They did a real nice job on those for the price.

This one in particular is a train wreck, crazy off center blade that cannot be corrected and a nasty amount of up and down blade play.

Oh throw price in there, it's a dead give away, for the Bradley.

Again, spot on Jill.

The Spydie GB is the only knife in the bunch that did not require any tinkering to get it working properly/optimally. It is crazy smooth and locks perfectly without any play whatsoever. This is my third GB FWIW.

-The zt0801 barely locked up as the lockbar tension was very weak creating an unsafe situation.

-The Buck is a write-off IMHO. The blade even appears to be warped from heat treat... The terrible lockup is just that, terrible.

-The strider has a fair bit of lock stick and is hard to open as the pivot needs to be quite tight to eliminate side to side play & blade centering. It willl be interesting to see how it "breaks in"... ;):D:thumbup:

"This one in particular is a train wreck, crazy off center blade that cannot be corrected and a nasty amount of up and down blade play. "
Picky,Picky, Picky :) Sorry to here about that. I presume you had it apart. I did hear about one like that that Mr. Buck handed to Tom Mayo to look at-turned out it was missing a washer to Mr. Buck's embarrassment.

What, a spyderco...........LOL ........you mean a knife 1/3 of the price of a strider.

But I can't be as much of a macho man with a spyderco! :(

Nop, this one was like new in box and never tinkered with at all; I bought it full disclosure from a member here.

Yeah; this first gen GB rivals MANY custom folders I've had the chance to use/experience let alone a Strider.

Not bad for $115.00 street price...:eek::eek::thumbup: And that is why I've had three of em (sold one :o).

I believe the one I mentioned was like that from the factory. Only other suggestion is to try out Bucks customer service and see how that is.
While I don't freak out on minor flaws, true problem I like to get fixed.
What constitutes a minor flaw vs a true problem often comes down to the knowledge of the knife and the manufacturer. I know Strider doesn't worry much about a blade being a touch off center. Going in knowing that, I would not be surprised(just correct it myself) . However if my Sebenza was off center that is more of a problem, because I know they did not intend to send it out that way.

I have always had good customer service and I've owned a few knives and would be hard pressed to find any better quality than this. 👍🏻

Update with the response I finally got back (after many calls and emails with no response) that is to me laughable because why would I be emailing if I received the part? This is just SMH material at this point:

I mailed it out a while ago you should have it let me know if you did not get it

Thanks,

Josh

Interesting back and forth here but not sure why there is any debate about how horrible their customer service is. The knives? Great when they are set up well and have all their parts. Anyone posting with "well I have one Strider with no issues" is just silly. Of course there are TONS of Striders out there without issues. But there are also plenty of stories about issues with fit (but not finish). I have now experienced this firsthand. The white knighting of Strider doesn't really help me.

Part of me wants to dump all my Striders because I feel annoyed and it would feel good to not support a company that doesn't seem to give a crap about me. Part of me knows I haven't found another similar hard use knife that would easily replace them...

I have dealt with many other companies and been pleasantly surprised with the above and beyond approach (Benchmade, Spyderco, Kingdom Armory, ZT to name a few) so why not give them my $?

Sorry to hear about your negative experience with Strider's customer service, Sting. As an loyal customer, you'd expect to be treated more professionally...

I've only had to deal with Strider's customer service, on one occasion (back when their facility was located in San Marcos).

I sent in a Strider SNG, due to a very small crack, which developed above the thumb stud. Strider (Josh), offered to upgrade a blade replacement, from a S30V ghost stripe, to with a PD1 black blade. Josh, also offered to change out the Lego scales, which they did, from tan, to Orange. I received the knife back, & it was one of the finest F&F examples I've ever owned. To say I was a satisfied customer, would've been an understatement.

Not long after that, I stopped by their facility, & personally met, Josh. Josh was very personable, & offered to give me a tour of their facility, & even took the time to explain some to the knife manufacturing processes, Strider uses...

It wasn't long thereafter, that Strider, relocated & moved their facility a little further East, to Escondido.

I'm not exactly sure what went wrong in your specific instance- perhaps, with advanced technology, businesses are no longer communicating with their customer's the old fashion way (verbally), & emails IMO, aren't as personable as a phone call...& some customer's (like in your case), are falling through the cracks?

On the other hand, I just spoke with Angela, from CRK this morning on the phone, & received a follow up call from another one of their employee's an hour later. They just wanted to let me know, that CRK, would be shipping out my knife via UPS, & asked if I would like "signature confirmation," included.

Now this, is the way successful businesses, treats their customer's.

Hopefully, Strider will learn, that they need to make improvements in their CS department, if they expect to continue being successful.

Edit: btw- can you please send me a picture of that SNG Tanto? ;)

Sure, But I don't know what I could pay for a beat knife with crappy customer service :)-too soon?
You had a legit complaint, and I am sorry they haven't gotten it taken care of for you. There are many good makers out there that would be glad for your business, but be warned they all have someone annoyed with them also.

Thanks for the warning but not new to the knife game lol. I can only go by my experience. Never had these issues with any other knife maker in 30 years of collecting trading and selling. And yes there are others that will be glad to take my money.

They certainly failed in your case, and I have yet to find a knife maker or knife I could not live without. There are just too many good makers out there, and they need to earn your customer support in every interaction with them.

Its equally silly to say I have one strider and its great as saying that you have a broken one right? I have experienced satisfactory strider warranty service three times. I currently have three strider folders with zero issues. While white knighting them isnt helping you, neither is talking negatively on a forum that they dont respond to.

Selling your strider knives doesnt erase the money that they have already received when you bought them but you can direct future purchases to another company.

Good luck getting your part back.
Stay positive and believe in yourself! Ill take the American flag.

I do not see the OP as talking negatively about strider (like he is just out to bash them w/o cause). He is just stating facts as to what happened. Seen plenty of these threads about Microtech service as well. Just because we like a maker/company, doesn't change the issues. I have collected for 25 years and never sent any knife back for warranty service. Buck, Benchmade, Spyderco, Microtech, Camillus, etc. Oddly, the two knives I considered sending back were both Striders..... Crappy lock-up. Regardless, it seems that currently Microtech and Strider can improve their levels of CS and QC.

Yes, sounds like both could use some work for sure.
Probably could be handled by one additional part time employee even.
