Finally- the official news on Ashokan 2010!

Don't forget my money! :D

UPDATE: Here's the steel that I sent out to grinding this morning. Doesn't look like much here, but a good bit of it is mosaics :) I listed to the guys that wanted thinner stock too. This will all be 1/8" thick.

I won't! :D

did you move to the arctic it looks like it snowed in your shop Deker :D

How are your daggers coming????
I worked on the handle today. It should be done in time this year....Assuming I come on the right week.

I have been trying to decide whether to bring last year's sword, or save it for next year - What do you think?

Unfortunately I don't think it's going to be finished in time, but there's a chance. I'm hoping to spend the 3 day weekend working on it, particularly if this hurricane keeps the weather bad.

This has been an incredibly bad year for me for shop time. My goal was 12 blades this year, and I think I'll be lucky to have finished 5 by the end of December, maybe only 4.

It's a special snow that can survive the summer heat. ;)

Seriously though, when you sprinkle flux on a 10lb billet at 2100F+ more flux goes up than goes down....stupid convection... :D

How are the rest of everybody's "pre Ashokan projects" going?

Starting 15 lbs. of beef jerky this weekend. Should be ready by Ashokan. Just wish my knives were as good as my beef jerky. Any requests? Cayenne and black pepper are my regulars. Extra hot, worcestershire, jalapeno, plain w/o black pepper? Regular is 1/8" top round long cut, but I can also use 3/8" eye of round cross cut if you don't like the old fashioned tear-it-off-with-your-teeth style.

i'll be there....

i know i'm not around the forum much anymore but i'm still alive, just ask matt. he pokes at me any chance he gets the big fat bastid.

looks like there's going to be some new ashokan virgins this year eh? probably wont be much time to mess with anyone other than DILL. we have some really good stuff planned for him

If Jerky requests are still being accepted, I vote for crosscut cayenne please! :)

I'm waiting for things to come back from the grinding shop and still need to prep a few things for my demo, but I think I'm ion good shape. I've got a compressor lined up to run the Iron Kiss hammer that John Larson is so kindly bringing for us to use as well. It looks like I'll have the opportunity during some of the open forge time to work with some people and give them a little hands on hammer time as well. If you've been thinking of buying a power hammer, this might be a great opportunity to test drive one of John's hammers.

Need to get the oil in the truck changed and figure out the final travel details...

Bring on the bowls of bacon! :D

Cant belive it's only just over a week till Ashokan. Unfortunately i dont think my ballock dagger will be finished... the blade just isnt there, but the handle probably will be mostly done =D

Easy to chew cayenne for Deker, Black Pepper melange for Dan, Teriyaki for Sam. I just made 4 lbs for labor day, perfect moisture content and thickness. I normally cut into about 1" squares but can leave it in strips or whole pieces if you want. I've found the squares last a LOT longer than the whole pieces. You really don't need a mouthful to enjoy some.

The weather looks like it'll be not too bad, rain might just miss us this year :)
