First Annual Pay It Forward Buildoff

Ok, as a new maker here...(and i read that this was for us :P) I am going to say i am in. I am also in the mini kith and that one is going smoothly, so let's rock this. My proceeds will be going to a local guy who wants to be a sheath maker, he just doesn't have the funds to make it happen.

great news Mike, thanks for stepping up!
I hope you have some good fun with this, and your donation location sounds awesome!

6 more days, then we're done collecting payitforwarders for this year. For this project anyway : )

Hey Lorien. This seems to be going well. When some of the guys get back from the Eugene, OR show, and you know what guys I'm talking about... (without mentioning any names like Dave L., Ray R., and Mike Q., etc...) I'll bug them a little about this. We still have a few days.

Now, about the 15th deadline you have. What if on the 23rd, Bruce Bump said, "hey, I've been sleeping for a month and I want in!!" What then?

I will ALWAYS make an exception for Bruce Bump!

Thanks for helping spread the word, Michael. I'm happy with what we've got so far, but there is PLENTY of room for more participants!

It would be most gratifying to have some of those names you didn't mention take part in this, and I'm also very happy about the response I've gotten from some makers just starting to establish themselves. This will be a very interesting project indeed, and where else can a new maker start at the same baseline as an established master and learn where and how the differences in experience play a role. A great learning experience, on so many levels. I hope so, at least.

I won't lie, i am a bit nervous about being in a "build off" with some of the greatest makers out there....I suppose it will just push me to do a better job :) I will continually keep telling my self that anyway :-P

Mike, that is one of the reasons to take part! Good on ya bro.

Oh, Mike, this isn't a competition - gee, don't sweat it. However, this thing might provide a little motivation to kick things up a notch. I'm in the same boat you are, as I know Nick is going to blow my doors off, but that's okay - it'll be fun.

Haha! In that case...Can i just bolt a knife blade to my 12 gauge? Michael, i know this is not a competition. It is just daunting and exciting at the same time. This will still be in my first "ten knives". I just feel a little green but i have faith. I just might surprise myself...and hopefully a few of you guys as well :P

I know we are sticking to a "predetermined profile", but are we allowed to make tweaks to the designs? I dont plan on drastically altering them, actually just minor alterations. I have sketched out about 40 different designs for this so far. I am getting pretty excited by this :) I need to really step this up( Just to fit in with the guys involved :P ) and i think i have a few ideas how.

Mike, of course you can. That is part of the point as well- take the design as a baseline and go from there. Put your own spin on it. In the end, it's your knife that you will sell or gift in order to benefit somebody else. You have to be happy with the final outcome and if that means turning one of these designs into something completely different, that's fine!

No intentions of turning it into something different at all, i really like your designs. I just have some sinister ideas....Muahahahah

I'm tweaking Lorien's designs with a 4# hammer.... :D

Here's my pay it forward.... forged his first blade today!
