First Look - Kershaw Echelon

I like it, but I would rather see it with no cut-out to access the liner. As it looks now, I'd pass.

Design wise, the Echelon separates itself from our current A/O offerings. We feel a need for that diversity. No knife fits everyone, but we have hope that some will find it unique in the way it manifests itself, and its many attributes are found to be functionally attractive.

Thanks for the comments.

I like it about 90%.

If I had input it would be:

* The stud impedes about 1/2" to 3/4" of the cutting edge. I like the extra cutting edge but my biggest pet peeve about the BM Mini Grip was it felt like I was trying to force the thumbstuds through the material I was cutting when I used all of the blade. This may not be anything that can be resolved though. This design almost seems perfect for paying Sal Glesser a licensing fee for his Spyder Hole.

* * If the studs are a must, can they be moved rearward and still activate the A/O without any problems?

* If the thumstud is a must, then lose the incut thing the current stud resides in. I don't dislike studs so don't get me wrong. I'm just trying to think functionality here.

* Then of course, make it plain manual :) (Age speaking here . . .)

Other than that, I think a finished product in line with this proto will be well received. I'd try one out even though I've been done with A/O's for quite a while.

I like what you guys are up to, Thomas.

Keep it up . . . And keep them coming . . .

I really dig the blade shape, the deep clip, and the translucent G-10.

but I also think an opening hole and manual opening would be pretty cool.

The thumbstud looks weird - too big and too far from the handle, when the knife is open. Sharpening this blade might be a pain! And located in the wrong place - exactly where it will make power cutting quite awkward.
And that hole in the blade will be collecting dirt and will be quite difficult to clean because of these sharp corners.
The handle is OK and the shape of the blade looks very interesting. But that slot, which goes on the strange angle, and the giant thumbstud really-really look wrong to me.

I like it a lot. Just a thought but translucent orange would be very cool. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, that's the one thing I didn't particularly like either. I'd love to see a manual version of this.

It appears to have a ball detent on it. It may work just fine without the AO spring.

Very cool. I love translucent G-10. Only have one the Spyderco Leafstorm. But I'm interested in getting more. And this knife has a very unique look.

I think its deffinately a different design for kershaw...I still like it though. I think it would be better if the thumbstud could be moved forward and back in that slot. Otherwise, i think it should just have a solid blade.

I am digging it. From what I am reading its just a prototype. Any idea of what some possible changes in the release version *might* be and when this one will come to market..?

I'm diggin it. Sign me up for one. That's looking nice Thomas!

That is the only thing I would change too. Not sure how I feel about the blade cut out.
