First Look - Kershaw Echelon

I really like the design. This will certainly go on my buy list. I'm guessing with that blade shape, a composite blade would be out of the question? I love the CPM-D2 on my composite Leek.

I am digging it. From what I am reading its just a prototype. Any idea of what some possible changes in the release version *might* be and when this one will come to market..?

You're right...it's a prototype. Possible changes could come from constructive comments in this very thread. :D

I like the overall design but would opt for a manual version. Digging the green G10, too. It is, indeed, a very different piece for Kershaw, and I'm glad of that. You guys are one of the few companies that I truly like, but don't own any knives from. The quality and designs are there--just ones that haven't appealed to me yet. :)

Hi Thomas -

Love it - I like the beefy looking blade, and the handle looks comfortable, putting the blade at a good angle for cutting - looks like a cardboard cutting monster.

Quit making knives I have to have.

Thanks for the pictures -

best regards -

Looks like something made by Stryderco.... but I like the low-ride clip.

My thoughts exactly. I like it mostly but the thumbstud and cut out are not appealing.

First thing I tought of when I saw it was Spyderco Native and I love the Native.

Like:
Blade shape and in particular the swedge and the varied grind height.
The Beefy liner lock bar, and what looks like the same style partial liner the Blur has.
Translucent G10
The grip pattern on the scales is also cool
Pillar construction!
Assisted opening
Low rider clip, usually a big negative for me, but that one looks well executed.

not so much:
Lanyard hole, not easy to design one with a low rider clip, but tends to be more needed with a low rider.
Thumb stud setup, really neat idea, but the single giant stud seems odd, but still interesting enough for it to not really be a negative.
Thin handle, they just don't work for me well, even my Blur is a bit too thin for my hands, 1/2" seems perfect though.

Very interesting design, can't say enough how awesome that grind is, more grinds like that please!! :)

yeah, been lurking for a year. haven't had any questions that i could'nt find an answer too.

The looks of the thumbstud placement are deceptive at first. Upon comparison to my other knives the placement is not very different in terms of distance from the pivot, scales, and the end of the sharpened blade at the handle. I am really liking the blade grinds. The thumbstud itself should be very easy on the thumb and the blade slot will also provide easy access to those who wish to open it two handed. The black version looks the best to me, but that is just because it is the most familiar color to make comparisons to. Unlike most I do not like the low carry clips. I am required to wear gloves at work which makes deep carry a detriment. I have gotten so used to it that I don't like low riders even when not at work. Overall it looks like another good design from the Kershaw shop.

The position of the stud might be a problem if user watns to thin out the edge ... cutting thick material issue others have mentined ...
