First Look -Kershaw+ Emerson Collaboration !!! You gotta see these beauties!

About a year or so ago Mr. Emerson announced he/his Company, was going to produce a budget line of knives made in China. I believe some were released, but I'm not sure.

I'm surprised at how many here are complaining about the steel, yes it's not the best when it come to edge retention, but it keeps the price point down and it really is stupid easy to sharpen (like a few swipes on ceramic, back to shaving sharp easy).

Shooter. This is post #110 of this thread (if I'm right) and not many have said much, just a handful I think. I just forget at times (till I'm reminded) that most don't actually use their knife as much as I do and some others...and we just KNOW for a fact that the lack of retention for that particular steel doesn't jive with either the amount of use or the type of use some people use the blades for. That is really simple if you either think about it or have truly "been there and done that". I have. Decision made. More for you knife guys.

I see above where someone says "I edc a Hinderer. But this is perfect for a small edc for bar carry/self defense"....something to that affect. I won't touch that one, would like to but I know better.

I'm somewhat amused by the idea that something with poor edge retention isn't going to cut it if you use your knife a lot. I know more than one gentleman who will use a stainless Case day in and out on his farm. He just strops it a few times if it starts to dull and then goes about his business. Sharpening less frequently is nice, but it's sure as heck not a necessity for a knife that you put a lot of miles on.

I'm glad your amused.

So you found Kershaw Sandvik meets your needs, but 8cr14mov is appalling? I'm not saying Sandvik is bad but it certainly not a top performer by today's standards. I don't know what people use there knives for and I don't assume to know or generalize... wouldn't want to look the part of a fool.

Like I said before, I can understand Kershaw using a budget steel here to keep cost down. And again, it's stupid easy to sharpen, just carry a ceramic rod if you anticipate lots of use. It will get the job done, even if you have to stop periodically to make a few passes on the rod.

You talk like your part of some elite club just for using your knife more then some others here on the forum, it's like you've forgot that no steel is immune to all cutting media. As far as 'been there and done that', I demand a fair amount from my knives at times and have destroy edges in S30V, CPM154, etc. Does this mean that these steels are inferior and I should bash them anytime a company uses them? Absolutely not. It means I should sharpen them and continue to use them, cause they're all simply tools that need maintaining, some just a little more frequently then others. By the way, if you really use your knives hard, you probably already carry some means of sharpening with you regardless of steel selection, I know I do.

In the end, if you find the Kershaw/Emerson collab not to your needs, then try the real deal, get an actual Emerson. If you were happy with Sandvik then Emerson's 154CM should do just fine for you.

I'll touch that one. From a SD standpoint, if it's sharp, it will cut (not getting into variables such as clothing media and the like). Especially if it's a dedicated SD option... not being used EDC otherwise.

I'm not sure if we'll see these in big box stores, but I bet they'll make a mint if they sell them at PX's and gun shops.

Pocket clip location for most of these is not exactly optimal. More than 20% of the knife is going to be sticking out of the pocket. Sigh ...

You have to be able to get a good grip on the knife to safely wave it from the pocket, otherwise you might throw a half open blade (seen it happen).

Kershaw is just outstanding this year! Emerson and Sinkevich collabs = Waow!!!

For me, it's the cqc-5K I fancy the most but darn it I wish they went with the longest blade coupled with the framelock.

Just a heads up everyone.

The kershaw/emerson collab's are now available for pre-order at bladehq. Just pre-ordered mine :D

I plan on buying a couple and trying different things.

A) Acid stone wash the blade and stainless lock side.

B) Polish the flats of the blade so the bevels are the only spots acid stone washed.

c) removed the wave feature and bring the spine back to the third jimping divot.

D) polish washers (only if they are phosphor bronze)

E) custom made titanium thumb disk (made by me)

There's more but Ill save that for later ;)

Had a little time to play around with the CQC-6k design today and I think I like this configuration best. Not sure if I should do the hardware or not.

tell me what you think :)
