First Look - Kershaw Knockout

TBQH, I might be the only one, but I'm disappointed about the handle material change. :grumpy: I was pretty excited about those sweet looking Aluminum handles...for this knife, G10 doesn't really do anything for me. :(

x2, might sway me not to purchase one now. Not that G10 is a bad thing, because I definitely like it, but was really looking forward to the aluminum on this one. We'll see, my opinion might change once I see/handle one.

Because almost every knife I have is G10. Don't get me wrong, it's a GREAT handle material. But aluminum feels much different in the hand. I've got a Boa, which as you surely know has aluminum scales, and I actually love carrying it. It's smooth in and out of the pocket, has a distinct high quality feel similar to holding a quality firearm.

Sure it might not be as grippy when wet, and it tends to get really hot or cold depending on temperature, but to me it feels more comfortable in the hand during simple cutting tasks. G10s grip isn't always necessary, and in most peoples cutting tasks, usually isn't necessary. The grip I get with the Boa still feels very secure, even when putting it through a bit more "hard use" tasks.

Also, aesthetically the aluminum scales just look higher quality and gives it more of a polished look vs G10s checkered pattern. I'm not sure how much influence you have on the design and end production results, but I'm happy to know you're here and take the time to read our comments and complaints. My statement about not buying it because the G10 was more of a knee jerk reaction than anything, and still look forward to the Knockout, but I will say that the "wow factor" is somewhat diminished because of it's similarity to many other knives I own, as well as other designs in the knife industry.

Actually, I was also interested in the aluminum handles. Probably it's because all of the reasons that 00ChevyScott pointed out, but still... I just thought that this was a nice feature, now in G10 it kinda sounds like an updated version of the Lahar. But it could be just me.

I liked the aluminum handles as well, I probably will not get one now that it is g-10. Still a good looking knife, and I am sure it is probably more cost-effective to make it from g-10, but with g-10 it's too much like every other knife I have.

Personally I think aluminum handles feel kinda on the cheap side. g10 feels more solid to me.

I think aluminium adds a certain feel to a knife. I handed my boss my Blur and he commented on how sturdy it felt, and thought it to be expensive. Plain G10 seems to come off as plasticy still despite my best efforts with him.

I can't disagree with the man, theres something about a metal handle that just makes it feel tough. I still think aluminium with tracktech handles are one of the best things Kershaw does, but I would take G10 over plain aluminium for a non gents knife.

Either way this is a great design.

Thought I would throw up a couple of additional images. We have done up a Knockout handle that had a coated Sub Frame Lock, and that we polished the scales high spots. Think the polish shows in the pics.

I like the contrast of the lockbar myself... I also think it better shows off your technology and I think it should be left a bead blasted finish. Seems like all of the other knives have black handles I think this knife should look different :-p
