Fishin' with your Traditional Knives

Fine looking mess of fish. I am sure that knife was up to the task. I will say I am a bit jealous over the fine eats. I need to get out and catch a mess for the skillet.

It was a fine dinner tonight and the Case/Bose did the job today. ;)

Your're Welcome Roberto! I called you but you must be in a Bluegill coma from eating 42 fish!

I don't think you'll regret it. They are as useful as they are beautiful. I keep finding myself back on their website, staring at the Archives...:D

Well I finally broke my dry spell! I just got back from a 5 day trip to the mountains. My dad, my cousin, and I caught around 30 trout over the past couple of days pluss this big blue gill. Nothing too big but these were just the ones we had gut hooked.
BUT the fish weren't the only thing I caught. I found this camillus 72 in a knife shop. It has crazy blade wobble and I'm pretty sure I over paid, but it was definitely just icing on the cake for a great trip.

Congrats on your successful trip, Erik!:thumbup:
But as folks around here have taught me to say (even if I don't believe it deep in my heart ;)), "Without pictures, it didn't happen!" I think you forgot to insert the photos that your post refers to! :)

Primbleized fillet knife:

I lost my old fishing fillet knife last year and my son gave a new Rapala as one of my Christmas gifts. Most of you who fish know the look - blonde with clear coat birch wood and unstained leather sheath, but, a decent fillet knife for the money. I like to leave mine in a boat compartment - so nothing too expensive.

I often think - not much like a knife nuts knife, when using it at the marina. I decided to give it more character. ;):D

Stripped the clear coat on the wood and brass, sanded the wood and took off the sharp edges, then a coat of Chestnut oil stain and allowed to dry for a few days.

In the mean time, I fed the sheath some Lexol and then some waterproofing natural waxes by Redwing Boot Co. It darkened the leather like I wanted it and after it dried, I buffed it to a low lustre finish. I used a leather tool to punch a leaf design as an identifier, just in case some of my fishin' friends decides it might be his. :grumpy:

I waxed the wood handles with BriWax. Well - I like it better now. My goal was to make it look more rustic. Hoping the now unprotected brass will darken before too long. ;):)

I enjoyed all the photos. It's nice to see the knives in action. I don't have a photo to share as all my fishing in the last 10 yrs has been with my kids. I was too busy bating hooks, removing fish or keeping out of the casting danger zone to think about taking photos with a knife.
