Fishing 2016!!!

Musky fishing is a hobby that my heart wishes I could get into but my pocketbook appreciates I stay away from...

Finally got a few days of warming trend after nearly a week of rain, I plan to be out there chasing big bluegill this Friday! Will post pics. I've been itching to go all week!

After the 2+ inches of rain last night.. wind today is 36 mph gusting to 55 mph.. found one little local area somewhat out of the wind. Nice 18 inch bass hit my white/ grey meps spinner! 4 lb monofilament spyderwire on my flyrod/spin cast reel. Still carrying my Buck Vanguard after the storms last night :P

Good luck to ya! Get a 2lber for me ok?

Thanks! I normally don't keep anything I catch here, but if I get a 2lber I will get it mounted too! Hopefully I can get into some 9-10 'gills but it's pretty much been the red ears biting lately.

It was a line screamer.... pulled line a little bit. It's sooo much fun on a 9'6" rod and 4 lb test! It's my favorite rod.... never leaves the supercab of my truck from 50 degrees out till it snows! I always swap entire spool of line each year with new line. I barely pull out the medium rod with 8 lb test. 3rd rod I have is setup with 25-35 lb test for snagging... catch a lot of drum/perch for fish fries when they turn on the pump of a local lake each year.

Heading back down to Dad's farm for Easter weekend. Same place I caught this big one. We're also going crappie fishing as well at a local lake. Wish me luck, I've got 2 Brothers and a Nephew to compete with this weekend! :)

finally had a chance to get out on the water for the first time in a month and a half. caught this beauty today.

Well My trip to Dad's was fruitful !!! We went down to my Dad's Farm this time for Easter and to try to catch some fish to move around the ponds. The lower one is doing great.. the one across the driveway is eh okay. But his 3rd pond that he built out back 6 yrs ago has never been stocked. I caught 13 bass, 2 bluegill and a crappie on a white/grey Meps spinner before I went in and got my Dad and Bro. I was like we gonna do this or what? They asked if I was catching any? I told them hell, I'm getting tired already! One the Meps spinner I caught around 10 handsized bass so we'll leave them in front pond to grow up.
I flipped over to a large white spinner bait with 2 willow leaf blades, one silver and one gold blade... Then I started catching the lunkers 16"+ every cast! I had 3 in a row and 5 out of 7 casts! This is the same pond I caught the 22" one a couple weeks ago so this one went in the pond across the driveway to seperate them. My brother was throwing a green/orange meps style spinner and was catching a ton of crappie and bluegills. I had bass swarming after that big spinner bait 3 times in a row leaving wakes you could see from the house but missed the lure. It was exciting! We put around 8 bluegill, 6 crappie, and 6 good sized bass in a basket and ran them out back to the other new pond. Hopefully in a few years that pond will be just as good as the front 2 ponds?

Here's the biggest one- 20 inches- 4 lbs.
Gear: Connesuir 10ft flyrod w/ spincast real. 4 lb Monofilament spyderwire line

btw yes since I caught that Huge 22" fish I went n bought a tape measure/weight scale combo! :)

Thanks.... who would have thought 4 lb test n a fly rod would catch so many huge fish?! :) Gotta say guys.. if you don't have a 2 piece fly rod with 4-6 lb test n a small spin cast reel- YOU ARE missing out on the best way to fish!

Nice!! I would love to have ponds and fish them like that! How deep are they and how big? They don't look too big and yet produce some nice fish! What do you use for feed?

There are 3 total ponds at my Dad's. Deep? Maybe 10-12 ft deep max.. with my Flyrod/spincast reel with 4 lb test and a double willow spinner I can cast 3/4 the way across them.

Maybe once a year my dad drops about 5 dozen minnows in each pond; otherwise that's it??? I know he doesn't tell me everything though?! :P

I'm just happy to be able to go down there n get to show him how big of ones are still in there ;)
