Stuck at work today.

My brother drew a special Oregon elk rifle tag and the season is open now (premium tag). this is right by his house.

Roosevelt elk.

I'm in Dublin at the moment and there are alot of deer around the place. I'm unfortunately unable to shoot any, I was wondering if someone could lend there expertise and tell me if there antlers are of quality or just average.

I have exactly zero experience with fallow deer. That said, I did look up scoring metrics. I would say these are absolutely shooters, but a very typical average.

To understand what makes for a high quality animal, the overall outside length from the base to the top tip, the width of the "paddle" area known as the palm, the thickness of the thinnest part of the main beam, and the distance between the left and right beams.

This is all from my curiosity as these are beautiful animals that I would be very happy to pursue.

That's very interesting thanks for help. We have the odd fallow not too far from where I live in Australia. I have eaten them and really liked it, but i have no knowledge of what's a good trophy until now.

There's a usb port on the scope on your air rifle the reminds me of something out of Alien/Aliens? I was hoping for a crosman 760 when you said you were getting a fancy pellet gun.

Roger that, it is a Sightmark Wraith digital Day/Night scope. The port is for downloading video. The rat shooting will be happening primarily at night with an IR illuminator. I'll try and get some video of the carnage on here down the road.

I'm more of a Powerline 880 guy myself, but I'll try and make do with this Swedish POS.

Me too!

This is a .22 cal. I am playing with the tuning now, I wanna run it at low pressure to get the shot count up as high as I can. I also need to minimize the impact to material on the other side of the animal. So, I'll be trying to come up with a tune in the 650 fps to 700 fps range which would put me in the 15 to 18 FPE range which should keep me from punching through too much on a pass thru or miss. I'll find a good tune in the 900 fps to 950 fps range as well so I can run about 30 PFE for when pass throughs won't matter.

I can also already tell this is gonna end up with me getting another one in .22 with an 800 mm slug liner for shooting 40 grain slugs at long range. Then I was always a fan of .25 cal, so probably need one of those, and after that, might as well have a big bore to shoot large game with too. Might have to sell some more knives!

I have suppressed sub sonic .22lrs, they are magic for sure. That said, they will punch holes in roofs, go thru timbers, damage equipment, etc. By comparison, they are running around 80 to 100 FPE, that's too much horsepower in a barn around equipment and livestock. Additionally, the PCP with the modulator is about half again as quiet as the suppressed subsonic rimfire, so, while the air rifle can be tuned to match the performance of the rimfire, the rimfire can't be powered down to rival the PCPs low power capabilities. Plus, who the hell doesn't need another rifle to shoot?

Given my absence of CoCK, maybe I can offer my services for half price based on your pricing break down. A bit like Sav-a-lot. I only carry the basics, but you reap the benefits.

Maybe I can afford an extra set of fasteners by the end of the year.
