Fixed blades

My newest Carothers Performance Knives DEK2 in brown micarta, with a burgundy leather sheath from @duramax that is fantastic!

Good fit and finish on the sheath, with that new leather smell; and the sheath fits the DEK2 like a glove! The knife is one of the sharpest I’ve ever held, and the scales fit perfectly. Very well balanced too!

It looks slightly better with my brown DEK2 than black, but I think it's neutral enough to work with any color CPK. My blue micarta DEK1 can fit but not tightly, as the blade is smaller.

I just took off the scales to show my horrible maintenance habits. The knife is an ultra hardcore user. I’m sure you can take the scales off and paracord wrap it.
In all seriousness, is it exposed to lots of water or sweat, and over what length of time did that appear? Obviously some elbow grease, scotchbrite, and Flitz should clean that up…I was just wondering.

Thanks. 👍
I wouldn't say they're horrible habits. If you use it, it's gonna show. I don't always remember to wipe down my machete every day, doesn't mean it's not loved...🤣

Its all sweat, it appeared over a week or two I believe.
Thank you for responding. It is amazing seeing how sweat affects knives (based on following other threads). Other than more frequent maintenance or wiping down, do you think any blade wax over the tang/scales surface would help?

When I lived in hot climates and around salty water I would rinse knives and use a blow dryer or shake them and leave them out on a towel. I did get sloppy with a few knives and was not happy to find what blood could do to a couple that were set aside after hunts not cleaned. Living here my blades tend to not get much sweat.

Stay safe! I love that knife shape

This knife sees heavy duty use in a construction environment, as did my Magnate and Ratmandu. Both knives got sweat on them as much as the DEK did. The Magnate just laughed and the RMD got patina and rust on it. Any protective coating I would put on the knife would disappear wear off within the day as all my daily knives see frequent Heavy use.

Love it. What it's meant for, all the awesome cpk knives that go to people that never use them or flip them for 3x the price sucks. They are tools. I need to pick up more but it's bloody impossible with all the scalpers and the limited times to grab em.

I got this particular knife with the sole purpose of beating the hell out it. Edge retention is out of this world, and it’s ultra comfortable to boot. Nathan really knows his stuff. I’m guilty of flipping one CPK knife I’ve owned. All other were traded, broke even or sold at a slight loss.

Nice to have real-world comparisons. Thank you sir!
