What are the differences between the non signature and fk2? I'm way behind on keeping up with what's what.Ha the FK2 is actually the one I'm probably going to let go of. I have the non-signature field knife that I like a little better. And have a DEK on order.
These are probably not the only differences, just the ones I can see. Non signature does not have jimping on the thumb notch, does not have the lanyard hole, just has Carothers printed on it instead of the signature logo, and level of finish might not quite be the same. But it's a little longer. It also came with a drop loop sheath instead of a teklok. But all in all, pretty similar. I just like the micarta handles on the non signature variety better. What are the differences between the non signature and fk2? I'm way behind on keeping up with what's what.

Gotchya, I didn't realize the blade length was only 4.625" on the field knife, that's a tad small for my liking. 5.5 to 6 is what I tend to prefer. I haven't carried or messed with any of my smaller fixed blades in awhile, spartan phrike, dek1, edc2 etc..These are probably not the only differences, just the ones I can see. I like the longer bladed basic best, but darn fine knives all of them. If I had to carry a smaller knife it would be one of these. From left to right: Basic (non-signature) Field Knife, FK2 (with swedge), FK1:

They are, of course, complementary![]()
I'm on a bigger kick right now I guess.
It’s the M1A SOCOM that got my attentionMaybe that one ?

My only knife > 8” BL. That being said, the CPK sweet spots outdoors are the HDFK or UF for me, both ca 6” BL.
I've never used a Carothers chopper though I've held them. They were going faster than me on my dyno tuned and ecu flashed zx10r when they came out and I never snagged one. Freaking gorgeousMaybe that one ?

Yeah, the basic version is 5", so not that much bigger, but enough that I notice it. The HDFK is 6.5".Gotchya, I didn't realize the blade length was only 4.625" on the field knife, that's a tad small for my liking. 5.5 to 6 is what I tend to prefer. What does "de-ramped" mean? Thanks,Modified Becker BK7, stripped and de-ramped by yours truly.
Bk7 comes with a thumb ramp (raised area for resting thumb) on the spine from the factory. He ground it off so the spine is one continuous flat surface from tip to pommel. What does "de-ramped" mean? Thanks,
Unfortunately, wild boars are not common where I am. We just buy the piggies live from up the road. It's a whole days work, but man, are they tasty!(Raises hand like a child) Me! Me!
Just missed a big Ole yote in the back yard the other day, freedom seed would have done the deed tho, not a spear
This is one I raised, not hunted. But I'd hunt em too.View attachment 1750973View attachment 1750975
